Our food service team plays a crucial role in creating a welcoming and nourishing environment on campus. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Snack Bar Lead for our Union Market to oversee daily food service production and ensure the highest standards of quality and service. This role involves supervising kitchen staff, managing service lines, and maintaining a clean and efficient kitchen environment. This is a 10-month per year cyclic position with a strong possibility of picking up shifts during cyclic time off.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Daily Food service Production: Assist with food preparation and production as needed to meet daily demands.
  • Service Line Management: Set up and monitor service lines to ensure smooth and efficient operation.
  • Work Methods & Prep Lists: Establish work methods, prepare prep lists, and assign tasks to kitchen staff.
  • Supervision & Instruction: Supervise and instruct kitchen staff in cooking and kitchen work, ensuring adherence to recipes and standards.
  • Quality Control: Monitor and train staff on food quality, quantity, and handling to maintain high standards.
  • Team Relationships: Establish and maintain positive working relationships with all team members, promoting a culture of civility and respect.
  • Employee Training: Instruct and train employees on proper kitchen techniques and safety protocols.
  • Menu Preparation: Collaborate with the culinary team to prepare diverse and appealing menus.
  • Production Forecasting: Forecast production amounts to minimize waste and ensure adequate supply.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of food production, inventory, and other relevant data.
  • Sanitation: Ensure all kitchen areas meet sanitation and safety standards.
  • Inventory Management: Oversee inventory, requisition supplies, and manage stock levels.
  • Meal Planning: Plan and coordinate meals to meet the nutritional needs and preferences of the campus community.
  • Reporting: Prepare and submit reports on kitchen operations, inventory, and other metrics.

The salary for this position is $37,896 – $48,960. Where the hired candidate will begin within this range is dependent on education, experience, and skills. In addition to salary, the university offers a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, life and disability insurance and retirement. Required Qualifications

  • One year experience in high volume or institutional food preparation and serving
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility and/or diversity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate Degree or Certificate in Culinary Arts
  • 12 months of college or university cooking experience
  • 12 months of high volume food production experience serving over 400 meals per day
  • ACF certified
