Hiring Range

The University of California, Merced is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is $25.62- $44.11. The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $26.40/hr - $28.42/hr.

About the Job

UC Merced's Graduate Division is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Grad Recruitment Specialist to join our team. Under the supervision of the Graduate Recruitment Manager, this position plays a crucial role in supporting our centrally coordinated graduate recruiting efforts and recruitment-related marketing activities within the Graduate Division. The ideal candidate will be passionate about higher education and dedicated to helping attract top graduate talent to UC Merced's graduate programs.

The incumbent assists in developing, coordinating, and implementing ongoing outreach, recruitment, and retention initiatives in collaboration with graduate faculty, staff, and partners across campus to ensure a suitable pool of diverse and talented prospective applicants. Travel may be required during recruitment and peak outreach season.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordination of Recruitment Initiatives: Assist in organizing and coordinating recruitment events, including campus visits, graduate school fairs, and informational sessions. Ensure effective representation of the institution at these events and support the implementation of recruitment strategies aimed at attracting diverse and qualified graduate students.
  • Administrative Support: Provide comprehensive administrative assistance to the Graduate Division, including scheduling meetings, managing communications, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Liaison Role: Serve as a campus-wide liaison between prospective students and graduate programs, facilitating communication and ensuring a smooth process from initial contact through application submission. Work directly with faculty members and program coordinators under the supervision of the Grad Recruitment Manager to support program-specific recruitment strategies. Travel may be required during recruitment and peak outreach season.
  • Collaboration: Build strong working relationships with prospective students, graduate program coordinators, faculty, and both internal and external partners. Promote best recruitment practices across the university.
  • Student Engagement: Work closely with prospective students, assisting them through the application process, presenting information in both large and small group settings, and providing guidance to ensure a positive experience.
  • Summer Scholar Programs: Support and coordinate summer scholar research programs, contributing to the broader recruitment strategy.
  • Data Management: Track and analyze recruitment data, maintaining databases of prospective students, and generating reports to support decision-making.

Qualifications

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university. (Required)
  • One year of directly related, progressively responsible experience in recruitment or admissions or a related student services job function, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. (Required)

CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Knowledge and experience working with a diverse student population.
  • Working knowledge of UC graduate admissions, and the ability to interpret policies and procedures to prospective applicants and the public.
  • Working knowledge of academic programs, including curricula, admissions requirements, and financial aid programs at UC.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Experience in public speaking.
  • Experience with Slate or similar CRM system.
  • Experience with Google Workplace or similar project and data management tools.
  • Experience with Canva or other content and marketing tools.
  • Experience creating content for social media platforms.
