I am the Gatekeeper for a small (but prestigious) firm in Chicago. At the moment, I'm the only person working on this position. This firm trusts me. I have promised I will find them the right corporate attorney. This attorney can be anywhere from a senior associate (6+) to a counsel to a junior income partner. They are willing to bring the right candidate in as a partner (even a 6th year associate). If you're at a big firm, you will likely take a pay cut. But the pay is good, the work and people are excellent, and they are looking for successors. There will be books to inherit. There is no billable requirement - but the target (for everyone) is 1500 hours. Ideally, they're looking for someone who has been at an AmLaw 100-200 firm. They haven't had much luck with people from AmLaw 100 firms - primarily because they're looking for a full-service corporate attorney (although I'm happy to submit you). They represent small start-ups to Fortune 1000 companies.
You MUST:
- Have a small book of portable corporate business. They are looking for entrepreneurs. A senior associate with $100,000 is fine. More is better. This is non-negotiable. I've sent them some amazing candidates with heavy-duty Rolodexes who had truthful perfect reasons for why they'd been unable to build a book and the firm has refused.
- Be a general corporate attorney; they are looking for someone with experience with M&A, corporate finance, business restructuring and succession planning. You don't NEED to have experience with all of those areas, but you need to have more than M&A experience - and you need to understand the concepts.
- Have graduated from law school between 2006-2018 .
- Be currently licensed in Illinois.
- Be able to work in the United States without sponsorship - unfortunately, the Firm is not in a position to sponsor people.
- Be willing to work in-office. This will perhaps turn into a Hybrid situation, but for now, it's in-office.
If you don't have all of these requirements, please don't apply. I have other jobs that might be great for you.
The comp range below is based on the fact that I won't be able to identify comp without understanding experience and size of book.
I'm looking forward to talking!
