Under the minimal supervision of executive administration, this position directs and performs the functions of a Clinical Risk Manager (Risk Management Associate II) and directs the performance of duties of the Clinical Risk Managers. Responsible for investigation of serious incidents which could give rise to potential and significant liability, assessing exposure and recommending corrective action or a course of action to reduce exposure to loss. Respond to inquiries and request for information from internal and external parties. Interfaces with physicians, patients, patient families, faculty, staff, and attorneys in investigations, depositions, hearings and negotiations. Develops and presents educational programs to physicians and other faculty and staff.
Areas of responsibility include all UAB Health System facilities and other entities participating in the self-insured trust fund.
Position Requirements:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Required: Position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare or a related field. Position requires at least five years of experience in risk management administration in a health care facility or related field. Requires a working knowledge of Microsoft applications including Word and Power Point and database utilization skills. Also requires excellent management, communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently.
Preferred: A Juris Doctorate (JD) is preferred. At least six years of progressively responsible experience in a managerial position.
LICENSE, CERTIFICATION AND/OR REGISTRATION:
Preferred: Admission to a State Bar or current nursing license; and an Associate in Risk Management designation or Certified Professional Healthcare Risk Management designation.
