The Facilities Manager assists in maintaining all College facilities, equipment and grounds in order to help ensure an effective learning environment. Supervises various projects of the department. This position requires a dynamic individual who can effectively communicate with staff while managing a variety of tasks. Ability to assess and solve problems quickly and effectively. This role is crucial in ensuring that our facilities are safe, efficient, and well-maintained, supporting the overall productivity of our organization.
Responsibilities
- Responds to work orders and performs repairs in various construction trades including electrical, carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, painting, etc.
- Performs all necessary interior and exterior inspections to ascertain ongoing property condition.
- Plans and supervises various projects of the Department which includes;
- working with Operations Director to outline scope of work and providing updates to project progress and completion
- organizing appropriate staffing of crew members
- ordering all necessary supplies and monitoring their use
- assuring crew is prepared
- finishing projects within determined timelines
- keeping accurate records of purchase and submitting them in a timely manner
- communicating with College community about project activities
- Reviews and dispatches work orders in the absence of Operations Coordinator.
- Oversees the building and equipment depreciation logs.
- Coordinates with Cornish building and equipment maintenance vendors and contractors.
- Teaches and leads current and new maintenance employees by:
- helping new employees familiarize themselves with all College properties
- pairing crew members for training purposes
- providing hands-on teaching of trades skills when and where appropriate
- Supervises Facilities spaces:
- assuring appropriate organization and cleanliness of spaces either directly or through delegation
- keeping track of larger tools and their condition
- keeping track of basic materials stock levels and purchasing more as necessary
- Assists Operations Director with the hiring and evaluation of new and current maintenance personnel to include:
- previewing applications
- participating in interview process
- offering constructive criticism in regards to yearly evaluations of crew members
- Works with Registration and Records and Academic departments on classroom set up prior to each term.
- oversees classroom and office set up in conjunction with the Operations Coordinator
- Oversees Coordination of meetings set up as it relates to furnishings and space.
- Works with Operations Director to track capital needs.
- Rotates on-call night and weekend shifts with Facilities team.
- Participates in emergency drills and in emergency situations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma plus five to seven years hands-on and supervisory experience or combination of equivalent education and experience.
- Valid WA state driver’s license and safe driving record.
- Applicable experience and advanced knowledge in at least two construction trades and above average knowledge of others such as electrical, HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, and grounds keeping.
- Mechanical aptitude.
- Knowledgeable in safe use of power and hand tools with proven capability to operate them.
- Skilled in general maintenance operations.
- Experience with PC computers, online maintenance programs, and cloud-based drive use.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment or independently using good judgment in all situations including emergencies.
- Attentive to detail and enthusiastic about quality of work.
- Self-motivated, responsible, dependable, and well-organized.
- Ability to be flexible, as scheduled work gets interrupted.
- Ability to work on call during emergencies and a varied schedule as hours may fluctuate based on the needs of the College.
- Ability to lift moderate to heavy weight (at least 50lbs), and work in high places (ladders, roofs, etc) and small spaces.
- Ability to move throughout shift inside and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
- Good verbal communication skills and ability to work with a diverse campus community.
- Must pass background check.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with HVAC systems and equipment.
- College degree in related field.
- Experience working in a not-for-profit, higher education or arts environment.
- Certified in CPR, First Aid and Blood-Borne Pathogens (training provided).
