Regional Credit Specialist

Purpose of the Job

Ball Horticultural Company is a global leader in the breeding, production and distribution of cuttings, seeds and tissue culture of ornamental plants, cut flowers and specialty home garden vegetables. In this role, you will be responsible for all credit and collection activity for assigned accounts. This customer-focused role works closely with the other members of the Credit Team, Finance, Customer Service and Sales.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Initiate and process cash-in-advance requests for customer orders without an open line of credit, monitoring payments and releasing orders accordingly.
2. Track, document, and follow up on past-due balances to ensure timely collection, minimizing bad debt exposure.
3. Process credit card payments and follow up on declined payments when necessary.
4. Investigate and resolve short payments, disputed items and claims.
5. Review/release booked orders and communicate with customers as required.
6. Manage and process customer credit applications, ensuring proper documentation and tracking.
7. Maintain consistent communication with Regional Credit Managers and Sales Representatives to provide updates on customer accounts.
8. Analyze account and collection activities, offering regular status reports to the Regional Credit Managers and Director of Credit.

Requirements

1. Bachelor’s Degree or relevant college-level coursework in accounting preferred, with a minimum of 3 years of experience in credit and collections.
2. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel at an intermediate level.
3. Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and knowledge of SAP or other collection management software is a plus.
4. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
5. Strong attention to detail, adaptability, and time management skills.
6. Effective communicator: Able to convey messages clearly and concisely across various settings, adjusting for the audience and context. Active listener.
7. Skilled in persuasion: Capable of negotiating and responding effectively to differing opinions or reactions.
8. Collaborative team player: Works well with others to achieve shared goals, gaining trust and support.
