Job Summary:
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) plays a critical role in shaping the financial direction of the company. The CFO is responsible for overseeing all financial operations, developing and implementing strategies to drive revenue growth, and leading M&A activities. This position requires a forward-thinking leader with a strong background in finance, strategic planning, and M&A in the mortgage or financial services industry. The CFO partners with Sales & Production Leadership to bring in-depth knowledge of the competitive landscape in the mortgage space with the ability to anticipate and respond to market changes.
The CFO provides projections and reports on anticipated financial needs, including all areas related to cash, warehouse and mortgage servicing rights lines of credit and financial covenants. While overseeing the overall accounting process, the CFO plays a key role in developing and implementing financial processes to improve and maintain the financial health of our company. The CFO participates in the development, execution and measurement of the company's business plan, and in communicating the business plan to associates so as to rally them behind the company's common vision and goals.
The CFO is responsible for directing the fiscal functions of the corporation in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board, other regulatory and advisory organizations, and in accordance with financial management techniques and practices appropriate within mortgage banking industry.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial Strategy & Leadership
  • Develop and execute the company's financial strategy to support growth, drive revenues, improve margins, and enhance profitability.
  • Strategic planning, budgeting and forecasting at all levels of company operations including individual departments and branches.
  • Develop and manage financial plan to ensure Evergreen has adequate capital and liquidity for growth and market shocks while being mindful of management desire to remain a closely held company.
  • Work with President to develop continuity plan to ensure the succession of the company and ways to create liquidity events and investment opportunities for senior management while maintaining ownership control of the organization.
  • Maintain strong relationships with senior executives and managers, understanding and identifying their needs, and collaborating to develop and execute business initiatives.
  • Monitor and analyze key performance indicators to identify opportunities for revenue and profitability optimization.
  • Oversee the Accounting, Human Resources and IT departments.
Capital Markets & Mortgage Servicing Rights (MSR).
  • Knowledge of Capital Markets and locked pipeline hedging.
  • Oversee the management and valuation of MSRs, ensuring accurate accounting and reporting.
  • Develop strategies to optimize the value of MSRs and manage associated risks.
  • Oversee MSR hedging strategies to mitigate interest rate risk.
Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A):
  • Lead the company's M&A activities, including identifying targets, conducting due diligence, negotiating terms, and integrating acquisitions.
  • Knowledge of profitable business models in mortgage and finance.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with investment banks, financial advisors, and other stakeholders to support M&A initiatives.
  • Oversee post-merger integration to ensure successful consolidation and realization of synergies.
Management & Team Leadership
  • Lead and mentor the accounting, finance, HR and IT teams, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
  • Attract, develop, and retain top talent within the organization who are aligned with our convictions and exhibit ideal team player qualities: humble, hungry and smart.
  • Champion change and effectively manage the implementation of new ideas.
  • Create an environment where all associates have a development plan and career path that supports continual learning and growth.
  • Work to encourage personal growth of all associates and develop a personal development plan for each associate.
  • Reinforce team approach and over communicate key initiatives defined in the business plan.
  • Support and solicit input from team members at all levels within the organization.
  • Ensure regular 1:1 meetings are held with direct reports and team meetings occur in each department under the CFO oversight, in addition to supporting team building events outside of the office.
Financial Operations, Reporting & Risk Management:
  • Oversee all aspects of financial operations, including accounting, financial reporting, treasury, tax, and compliance.
  • Identify and manage financial risks, including credit, liquidity, and market risks.
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Implement and maintain robust internal controls and financial systems.
  • Oversee the company's accounting systems.
  • Develop and implement risk management policies and procedures to help mitigate key elements of the company's risk profile.
  • Ensure compliance with all related regulatory and legal requirements and industry standards.
  • Develop and monitor performance metrics that support the company's strategic direction.
  • Implement operational best practices.
  • Help company develop a REIT or other investment vehicle for purpose of financing and/or purchasing MSR's.
  • Act as an advisor on financial opportunities or contracts the company may enter.
  • Evaluate and advise on the impact of long range planning, introduction of new programs/strategies and regulatory action.
  • Manage warehouse lines and other borrowing arrangements - maintain strong proactive relationships with warehouse line representatives.
  • Liquidity management - forecasting and monitoring of all liquidity needs, including reliable cash flow projections and reporting to ensure desired liquidity levels.
  • Optimize the handling of bank and deposit relationships and initiate appropriate strategies to enhance cash position.
  • Maintain relations with external auditors and investigate their findings and recommendations.
  • Ensure that record keeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies.
  • Manage all aspects of corporate business insurance.
  • Maximize return on investments by identifying and implementing sound investment opportunities.
  • Work with advisors on tax planning strategy and oversight - this includes tax-planning strategies for the owners and the company. Includes federal and state income taxes and state taxes such as B&O taxes.
  • Optimize the use of technology to enhance financial reporting, data analysis, and decision-making processes.
  • Provide technical financial advice and knowledge to others within the financial discipline.
HR Oversight
  • Provide coaching, mentoring and guidance to the HR Manager.
  • Manage associate benefits including health insurance and retirement plans, with an emphasis on maximizing a cost-effective benefits package.
  • Enhance and/or develop, implement and enforce policies and procedures of the organization by way of systems that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the organization.
IT Oversight
  • Provide coaching, mentoring and guidance to the IT Manager.
  • Oversee the company's IT strategy and infrastructure to ensure alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaborate with the IT Manager to develop and implement technology initiatives that support financial goals and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure the financial viability and cost-effectiveness of IT projects, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Manage IT-related risks, including cybersecurity, data protection, and compliance with relevant regulations.
Communication
  • Work with Senior Management to Over Communicate Organizational Clarity throughout the company.
  • Ensure department is well informed of changes and events within the company through regular team and department meetings.
  • Pro-actively communicate changes in accounting technology and other accounting related information to the company.
  • Handle difficult personnel situations directly, using Evergreen's convictions to guide decision making while using appropriate discretion, HR advice, and respect for the individual.
Customer Management
  • Customers are branch managers, home office managers, loan officers, and all supporting staff.
  • Communicate effectively with internal customers to identify needs and evaluate alternative business solutions and strategies.
  • Continually define ways to increase internal customer satisfaction and deepen client relationships.
  • Maintain positive internal customer relationships and be available to help solve problems and deliver senior level resolutions.
Internal Operations
  • Review status reports of Project Managers and Senior Managers and address issues as appropriate.
  • Lend expertise to internal teams and task forces.
  • Enforce standard company policies and procedures.
Performance Expectations:
  • Perform all actions in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Convictions of EHL.
  • Manage the department to meet or exceed department productivity, production and/or financial metrics.
  • Provide a "WOW" experience and effectively communicate with associates, clients, partners, and vendors via phone, written communication, and/or in person.
  • Set clear expectations for associates and support their personal and professional growth through one-on-one meetings held on a semi-monthly or more frequent basis and annual performance reviews with all direct reports.
  • Address performance issues in a timely manner and document incidents.
  • Anticipate staffing issues, plan for staffing changes in advance, and complete recruiting activities monthly for branches, or as needed for departments in order to hire high quality associates to fully staff the team.
  • Host regular and timely communication with associates.
  • Understand the responsibilities of production and operations and act as a liaison between functions to develop collaborative team relationships so that loans close on time, and as promised.
  • Maintain basic knowledge of Evergreen's HR, Onboarding, Payroll, and Accounting policies and systems and proactively consult applicable department when dealing with issues.
  • Exude a positive attitude, mentor associates, set a good example (this includes appropriate dress and demeanor).
  • Perform all actions in accordance with the policies and procedures of the company.
  • Have knowledge about Evergreen's mortgage processes and products in order to answer questions and support staff.
Specific Skills/ Knowledge/ Abilities Required for Position:
  • Master's degree in business administration, finance, or accounting or equivalent experience.
  • 5-10 years' experience in the mortgage and/or related industry.
  • REIT experience a plus.
  • Capital Markets experience is beneficial.
  • Exercise good judgment and strong character, motivated, hard working.
  • Ability to work well with fellow associates, clients and vendors.
  • Good communication skills. Neat, clean, healthy work habits.
Physical Requirements:
  • Requires all forms of dexterity and mobility throughout the shift, which may include extended periods of sitting and/or standing. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, twist, climb or balance, stoop, kneel crouch or crawl.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to speak and hear, lift and carry up to twenty-five pounds (25 lbs.) or occasionally more.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, occasionally noisy environment.
  • May be required to drive for business purposes and if so, must hold a driver's license in good standing and maintain personal auto insurance in compliance with EHL's Auto Insurance policy.

Compensation:
The total annual compensation range for this position is $250,000.00 - $330,000.00 depending on a number of factors including location and experience.
