As Staff Underwriter, you will be responsible to develop a profitable book of Private and Commercial Auto Business to insure sustainability of the company. You will achieve such goal by The Application of the Underwriting policy of the company and by making and implementing new and improved underwriting policies and improving Customers experience. You will also provide overall leadership and strategic direction in developing underwriting best practices and improving the underwriting philosophy of the company.
• A key duty for the Staff Underwriter is to be responsible for working with and protecting confidential and proprietary customer and Company information. • You will also work hand in hand with The Line Underwriters whose mandate is to evaluate Renewal and New Clients underwriting and serve as their Mentor.
Job Responsibilities
Researches the markets.
Evaluates Loss Experience.
Utilizes underwriting guidelines and Company best practices to ensure compliance with state regulations.
Develops pricing guidelines.
Assists line underwriters in the handling of high hazard or more complex accounts.• Communicates with agents on underwriting issues including, but not limited to, decisions on cancellations, declination, and exposure concerns.
Trains, coaches, and serves as a technical resource to other underwriters. Mentors others encouraging individuals and the team to improve and accelerate performance. • Promotes the Company's products and services by actively seeking opportunities to speak to agents or insurance-related groups, and by networking within the insurance community to stay abreast of changes within the industry.
Conducts Underwriting audits.
Skills Required
High capacity for insurance data analysis.
Technical underwriting skills including ability to analyze exposures, coverages, and contractlanguage.
Effectively communicate with Agents, and other associates through verbal and/or written means.
Demonstrate complex Decision-making ability with little or no supervision.
Job Qualifications
Bilingual English/Spanish is a must.
Bachelor's degree in related fields.
CPCU or professional insurance designation preferred.
Associate of Insurance Data Analysis preferred.
5-10 years of underwriting experience is preferred.
Comprehensive knowledge of commercial lines products and contract knowledge including regulatory and policy differences among applicable states.
Demonstrated knowledge in negotiation, analytical and problem-solving skills.• Strong computer skills and ability to work with multi-faceted systems.
Ability to effectively and independently manage complex workload while exhibiting very sound judgment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships with agents and other departments and must also exemplify superior teamwork.
