A rare and exciting opportunity to lead a diverse, capable and passionate team in managing the Bolton Abbey Estate and its wide-ranging interests, the majority of which are in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.As a member of the senior executive team, and reporting to the Chief Executive, the successful candidate will help shape the Group's long-term strategy whose primary focus is on driving positive financial performance whilst delivering genuine economic, social and environmental value. A proven leader with strong commercial acumen, the appointee will ensure its property, farming, forestry, sporting and conservation initiatives continue to flourish alongside Bolton Abbey's successful visitor enterprise.

THE POSITION

  • Lead and develop the estate’s residential and commercial property interests across its significant landholdings in Yorkshire whilst working in close partnership with the Building, Forestry and Sporting departments to ensure each continues to deliver long-term economic and environmental value.
  • Enable the smooth running of its tenanted farming operations whilst supporting the estate’s development and implementation of a strategy that focuses on renewable energy, natural capital and a path to achieving net zero.
  • Continue to oversee and evolve the estate’s successful visitor business and work collaboratively on a strategy to align both the in-hand and tenanted accommodation offers more closely with the visitor proposition.
  • Take accountability for the robust financial planning and performance of the estate’s rural business whilst leading and supporting a diverse and committed team in reaching its full potential.

THE CANDIDATE

  • An ambitious, entrepreneurial and inquisitive property and land management professional with a track record of optimising existing operations and developing new commercial opportunities.
  • Interested in and excited by the future development of UK agriculture and the role estates can play in delivering positive environmental outcomes.
  • Strong financial and budgetary experience with the ability to think strategically. Should possess the tenacity and flexibility to see demanding and long-term projects through to fruition.
  • A charismatic and inspirational leader who communicates effectively and builds strong relationships both internally and externally whilst being sensitive to the heritage and ethos of a multi-generational family business.
