Job Requirements / Description

Leadership:

  1. Exercise proactive leadership in promoting the mission and vision of the school
  2. Plan and prepare strategies which support and monitor the school goals and plans
  3. Provide staff supervision, conduct or oversee annual performance appraisals
  4. Promote and monitor all staff development
  5. Provide leadership for continuous school improvement

Curriculum and instruction:

  1. Monitor the development, implementation and evaluation of curricular programs and ensure that all initiatives are student focused and aligned with the school mission and improvement plans
  2. Provide leadership in the articulation among all instructional levels as well as special services within the school
  3. Guide instructional staff toward ongoing assessment of student performance
  4. Promote and support effective instructional practice
  5. Provide leadership in identifying and requiring appropriate teaching materials and equipment
  6. Provide leadership in the development of technology plans and purchasing of equipment

Communication:

  1. Monitor internal and external communication systems
  2. Maintain contact with the state department of education and other agencies/organizations for the exchange of information to enhance the ongoing efficiency and effectiveness of the school
  3. Oversee communication system between school and parents
  4. Serve as liaison between the school and the authorizer
  5. Provide assistance to the School Board regarding meeting agendas, Board development and other board duties

Learning environment and student management:

  1. Guide the process of effective dissemination of information between teachers and parents
  2. Monitor reporting systems involving health and safety of students
  3. Provide and communicate clear expectations for student learning environment and behavior
  4. Develop yearly student schedules
  5. Oversee development and implementation of student/parent activities
  6. Ensure that all state and federal guidelines and rules regarding students are followed

Resource allocation and management:

  1. Exercise proactive leadership in organizing the school's resources to best meet the needs of all students
  2. Prepare and manage the school’s annual budget
  3. Monitor all internal systems of the school and make recommendations to the School Board
  4. Oversee long term capital improvement needs
  5. Monitor ongoing building maintenance and budget
  6. Oversee and monitor all grant proposal processes
  7. Oversee authorizer renewal processes
  8. Coordinate business functions with instructional activities of the school
  9. Address problems within the school systems and design procedures and policies to address these areas of concern

Compliance:

  1. Ensure that the school adheres to all applicable state and federal laws and regulations
  2. Ensure that school meets the requirements of the contract with the school’s authorizer
  3. Oversee the collection and analysis of data related to the school goals for annual report and ensure annual report is completed
  4. Ensure that all annual state and federal grants and reports are completed and filed
  5. Direct and supervise the development, maintenance, updating, and distribution of School Board policies and procedures
  6. Oversee the development and implementation of yearly student recruitment plan

Personnel:

  1. Provide and communicate clear expectations for staff
  2. Ensure that all state and federal laws regarding personnel are in compliance
  3. Monitor and facilitate resolution of staff conflict
  4. Promote and support professional development of all staff within the school
  5. Oversee the recruitment and selection of all staff and provide appropriate orientation and training

Qualifications

Requirements:

  1. Experience with non-profit governance structure
  2. Experience in non-profit and/or school finance structures
  3. Previous executive level leadership roles
  4. BA +5 years of experience or Masters level degree in business, education or a related field

Preferred:

  1. Valid MN principal or superintendent licensure
  2. 5 years of successful teaching experience
  3. Administrative experience in supervision and staff evaluation
  4. Effective oral and written communication skills
  5. Ability to work cooperatively with all stakeholders as partners, including parents, community members and staff
