Working alongside our international teams, you will play a key role in overseeing the expansion of our contributions to global scientific discovery and the generation of data, insights, and solutions that researchers, businesses, and governments around the world need to solve complex environmental challenges.

You will be joining the international subsidiary of a leading independent, not-for-profit research institute with a long history of collaborating across the globe and a strong commitment to equitable international partnerships. This is an exciting time for us internationally, and UKCEH International Ltd. has been established to support further growth of our activities outside the UK. Headquartered in the UK and with a branch in Ghana, UKCEH International Ltd. operates our newly opened West Africa Office.

A Non-Executive Director is sought to inform UKCEH International’s strategic direction and support its development and growth, thereby facilitating the ambitions of the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology. As a Member of the UKCEH International Board, you will provide guidance on the setup of our office in Accra, our international corporate operations, and the potential scoping of other offices around the world.

You will have a sound working knowledge of the requirements of Non-Executive Directors, including setting the strategic direction of the company, monitoring performance, financial accountability, and ensuring effective risk management. As well as a robust and relevant international network, we are seeking candidates with the following experience and skills.

Experience:

  1. Proven senior leadership experience and knowledge of effective international corporate governance in multinational/complex organisations in the private, public, or voluntary sectors, preferably with board-level experience as an executive or non-executive.
  2. A record of accomplishment of strategic leadership in the creation of new income-generating opportunities internationally, with experience and understanding of the markets where UKCEH International could be active, including developing and emerging markets and economies.
  3. Experience of establishing and sustaining effective stakeholder relationships to achieve organisational objectives, including building international multilateral and bilateral partnerships relevant to UKCEH’s research, products, and services.
  4. A demonstrable interest in international environmental issues, transboundary science, and/or international development.

Skills:

  1. The ability to apply knowledge strategically, think creatively, and keep mission-focused.
  2. Strong independent judgement, an ability to respect confidences and evidential commitment to promoting the values of an organisation.
  3. Preparedness to consider the range of perspectives and explore alternative outcomes, respecting alternative views and the value of compromise.
  4. High calibre communication and the ability to work effectively as a member of a high-performing team.
  5. Commitment to the organisation and a willingness and availability to devote the necessary time and effort.

At UKCEH, we celebrate diversity! We are not just seeking skills and experience; we are on the lookout for unique perspectives and fresh ideas. Join us as we shape the future of environmental science and tackle global environmental challenges!
