Description
The entry level class works under immediate supervision and requires some knowledge of animal behavior and animal control regulations; custodial care applicable to animals in order to care for sheltered animals.
Normal Working Hours: Part-time; 24 hours bi-weekly; Saturday & Sunday; 10:00am - 4:00pm; possible intermittent weekdays when needed.

Duties/Responsibilities
Maintain the shelter area in clean & orderly condition; clean & sanitize feeding dishes & equipment; evaluate and care for all sheltered animals; scrub and disinfect all animal contact areas, cages, and runs according to department policy; observe animals and shelter equipment and report any irregularities to the director; coordinate inventories and shortages of food, supplies and equipment with the Director; organize and coordinate the services of community service workers and volunteers as assigned.
Evaluate all impounded animals; coordinating department policies and legal holding periods, health and temperament issues; develop lists of candidates for veterinary checks, surgery and adoption, and for probable euthanasia; coordinating all activities with the Director; assure that all euthanasia of signed-off sick or injured animals is performed in a timely humane manner according to the euthanasia policy; assist the staff or contact Veterinarian in preparing for and performing vet checks and surgery; document all controlled drug storage, handling and usage according to department policy and State and Federal laws; escort and assist visitors to the shelter for purposes of redemption, adoption or education; may occasionally do off-site adoptions or programs.
Assist the administrative staff with office duties such as license sales, owner releases and redemption, adoptions, and phone and dispatch duties as assigned by the director.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director including grounds, shelter or vehicle cleaning, maintenance or minor repair.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.) and 12 mos. of experience working and/or performing the duties to care for animals in a shelter environment; or 12 mos. performing volunteer work in an animal shelter; valid Ohio Driver's License
- Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above may be substituted for the education and/or experience required. Education and Experience may not be substituted for mandated licensure/certification.

UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Predictable and regular attendance is required.
Travel may be required.
Subject to rotating shifts and/or week-end work schedules; exposed to weather (e.g. hot, cold, rain, snow), exposed to pet dander, physical violence and infectious animal bites.
Stooping, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
