Carney, Sandoe & Associates, an educational recruitment firm, is currently seeking an experienced Director of Institutional Advancement at a nursery-8th grade independent school in Manhattan .

Reporting to the Head of School and working collaboratively with the Board of Trustees and Administrative Team, the Director is responsible for overseeing the school's comprehensive fundraising program, including strategic oversight of annual and major gifts and capital campaigns and managing alumni/ae affairs. The new appointee will build on our history of excellence and collaborate on future possibilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a comprehensive and strategic fundraising program, including annual and capital campaigns, to attract the maximum possible gift support to enable the school to reach its goals and objectives
  • Identify, cultivate and strengthen relationships with potential donors Recruit, train and manage fundraising volunteers
  • Develop and implement all major gift-cultivation strategies
  • Oversee office-related school events Serve as the senior-administrative liaison to the Board's Development Committee, with responsibility for collaborating on setting and achieving the school's fundraising goals and reporting on fundraising progress and otherwise supporting the Committee chairs Alumni/ae
  • Oversee the Alumni/ae Advisory Board Work with the Advancement Team to formulate and implement a strategy to enhance alumni/ae connection to, and in support of, Town Management & Outreach
  • Manage the staff of the Institutional Advancement Office and provide financial oversight for the Office, including budgeting, planning and expense tracking
  • Collaborate with the school's Chief Operations Officer on financial reporting
  • Connect all constituencies to the mission and educational vision of the school through communications, reunions, celebrations and other special events
  • Serve as the senior-administrative liaison to the Board's Trustees Committee, with responsibility for identifying and supporting the Committee and Head of School in cultivating potential Board of Trustees candidates and otherwise supporting the Committee Chairs

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, Master's degree preferred; targeted education in advancement and fundraising
  • Minimum of five years' experience working within an independent school or equivalent advancement office
  • Successful leadership and supervisory experience
  • Supportive of the school's mission and philosophy
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, and supportive of School's Statement on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; demonstrated personal growth and accomplishment in this area preferred
  • Comfort with a range of technology, including Blackbaud
  • Personal characteristics of an outstanding professional: warmth, tact, discernment, superb communication and organization skills, high energy and a good sense of humor

Potential Benefits: Compensation and benefit packages are competitive but will differ by school and will typically depend on geographic location, your experience, and your level of degree.
