Position Summary
At Sony, exponential data growth and proliferation of data sources offer opportunities for unprecedented insights that can drive innovation, enhance decision making, and unlock new revenue streams. Enabling Sony to unlock such potential through data requires effective democratization of data and disciplined governance. As such, the Data Enablement group, which sits within Sony’s Digital Transformation (DX) division, is seeking an experienced Senior Manager to lead our efforts in ensuring effective stewardship of data assets within our organization. This pivotal role will encompass key facets of data governance and democratization, with emphasis in data privacy compliance and discoverability of data through data cataloging.
Job Responsibilities
Data Governance: You will play a critical role in instilling effective processes and accountability to enforce data governance policies. This includes deeply understanding data policies (strong emphasis in privacy, but also business and security policies), implementing effective processes to ensure compliance, and measuring such processes for continuous improvements.
Data Cataloging: Collaborating with Product Management and Technology teams, you will develop a comprehensive data catalog that enables effective discovery of data assets available to the organization. This includes identifying and documenting data sources, metadata management and automation, and developing a global support framework to assist Sony data users with data discovery.
Collaboration: As a Senior Manager, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Business, Product, Technology, and Analytics teams, to understand their data needs and requirements. By fostering collaboration and communication, you will be able to effectively triage data activities to ensure compliance, continuously refine processes to eliminate inefficiencies, and understand the effectiveness of data utilization.
Leadership: Manage direct reports. Instill structure and good project hygiene. Develop clear roles and responsibilities. Navigate ambiguity into actionable steps. Establish alignment in processes where clarity is needed. Set a high bar in communication, transparency, and continuous improvements.

The anticipated annual base salary for this position based on location is as follows: Los Angeles, CA: $165,000-175,000, San Diego, CA: $155,000-165,000. This range does not include any other compensation components or other benefits that an individual may be eligible for. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.

Qualifications For Position
Your qualifications and experience should include:
- Undergraduate degree in business, information systems, or related fields. Master’s degree a plus
- 7+ years of relevant experience in the data field, with experience in one or more of these areas:
- Data governance or data privacy
- Data project management
- Data catalog
- Metadata management
- 3+ years in management of direct reports
- Strong understanding of relational database and ETL concepts
- Skilled in developing an execution path from high level ideas
- IAPP/CIPP certification highly desired
- Excellent communication skills
- Japanese language fluency a big-plus
