Job Summary:

The Vice President of Manufacturing/Operations reports to the President and is responsible for planning and execution of the company's extensive manufacturing and distribution operations. This is a high growth role and experience is required showing you have the ability to standardize processes, build teams, and manage organic and acquisition-based growth.

High touch manual/people-based vs automated manufacturing in a customer-centric environment with 4,000 custom jobs yearly for 3,800 individual unique retail clients. Nothing except 5-star raving fan results is acceptable.

This is not a high volume, low variable, machine manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities:

  1. Manage multiple facilities of the company's manufacturing, in-house, and subcontracted onsite builds.
  2. Manage the company's distribution function through company-owned, highly customized delivery equipment including tractor/trailers.
  3. Create consistency across 3 Manufacturing facilities through focus on creating, optimizing, and following processes.
  4. Asset management, establish and improve on best practices for preventive maintenance and service while minimizing repairs. Responsible to manage outside vendors for equipment repairs.
  5. Establish and maintain policies to ensure DOT, OSHA, and other guidelines are met.
  6. Establish and maintain a culture of safety through in-house training, peer safety programs, etc.
  7. Forecast labor and material needs based on sales forecasts and deliver according to high growth plan while maintaining great work environment and high level of quality and safety.
  8. Work closely with the President on manufacturing plans, goals, and future product innovations.
  9. Play an active role in senior-level negotiations with manufacturing partners and material vendors.
  10. Develop and manage budgeting and budget execution with a focus on product costs and margins.
  11. Direct all production control, production process development, quality systems, purchasing, and shipping/receiving activities.
  12. Manage just in time inventory levels.
  13. Develop strategies and best practices for best material utilization while minimizing raw material waste.
  14. Contribute to short and long-term organizational planning and strategy as a member of the management team.
  15. Identify Root Cause of recurring issues in all areas and resolve.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. Bachelor of Science in Engineering (EE, ME) required, preferably with an MBA.
  3. 10 years of experience in high touch manufacturing, with Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing experience.
  4. 5 years of experience in wood materials preferred.
  5. Must have managed operations in excess of $20mm to $100mm, in a high growth period.

Knowledge:

  1. Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point.
  2. Expert knowledge of enterprise resource planning systems.
  3. Six Sigma and lean manufacturing knowledge a plus.
  4. Understanding of OSHA regulations, policies, and procedures.
  5. Expert knowledge of quality assurance and improvement techniques.
  6. Expert knowledge of reading and understanding blueprints/AutoCad drawings.

  8. Execute the company's vision and cascade the message effectively to all manufacturing team members.
  9. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  10. Must have a high energy level.
  11. Excellent negotiation skills.
  12. Must be able to think creatively with solid solutions to meet goals.
  13. Bilingual in Spanish a plus.
  14. Ability to travel within the USA.
