Community Action Partnership of Mercer County is seeking a full-time individual Mon-Fri (40 hrs. weekly/17.00-18.00hr) $35,360- $37,440 yr plus benefits to serve as the Housing Counselor. Occasional evening or weekend hours when needed. This is an 18 month grant funded position that has the possibility of renewal.Job Summary:Under the supervision of the Social Services Director, the Housing Counselor will recruit and engage landlords to participate in the various housing programs. Work in conjunction with staff from MCBHC/LCCAP and other agencies to connect eligible consumers with housing options, utility assistance and other resources.Demonstrate the Agency's commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion both internally and externally.Work with consumers who are Veterans, intellectually or mentally disabled, suffer from PTSD or in recovery.Conduct housing inspection and occasional home visit.Track placement and connects to other resources internally or externally.Attend housing coalition meetings and public hearings.Assist consumers with completing program application, collect eligibility document, assure recertification are completed, follow up on consumer responsibility and follow-up eligibility.Monthly Case Management sessions and budget managementAbility to use a variety of computer software programs and database systems to case note consumer activity. In addition to that, a copier, scanner, printer, fax machine, calculator and telephone.QUALIFICATIONS TO PERFORM WORK:A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university in Social Work, Communication, Real Estate Education with concentration on individuals with Mental Health, or other social services related field preferred.A demonstrated ability to effectively manage a large case load of consumers and determine specific course action, and function well in a team decision making atmosphere is required.The ability to take direction from members of management and Executive LeadershipA demonstrated commitment and ability to effectively establish a friendly atmosphere.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Adapt with minimal or no advance notice to changes in how business is conducted, and work is accomplished in a time-sensitive environment with shifting priorities and deadlines.Maintain strict confidentiality when working with sensitive data.Effectively use written and oral communication skills. Experience using Microsoft OfficePrioritize and perform work on multiple, concurrent tasks or assignments requiring accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to generate reports, motivational interviewing, implement holistic and individualized case management plan.Utilize sound judgement when applying policies, rules and regulations to tasks requiring the knowledge of established policies, rules and laws.Knowledge of HMIS (Homeless Management Information System) and CoC (Continuum of Care) preferredJOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Builds, supports and maintains a robust partnership with community members representing underserved populations and professional organizations. The ability to interact and communicate with all groups of people in the community. Take and pass the HUD Housing Counselor Certification Exam within a year.Performs other related duties as assigned. Work under stress of fixed deadlines while meeting demand for service or information. Effective time management balance is imperative.Preferred applicants will have street outreach experience, working with the homeless population, Veterans, lived experience, background and knowledge of Fair Housing laws, experience with the court systems and eviction process.
