SUMMARY
Researches, plans, and designs mechanical and electromechanical products and systems, and directs and coordinates activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of mechanical or electromechanical products and systems.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILTIES
- Release projects in a timely manner with focus on zero defects.
- Proficient in AutoCAD and Inventor or similar software.

- Experience managing projects in a project-based industry and the ability to assess project requirements.
- Expert level knowledge of mechanical design to include machine design, specification of motors, gears and mechanical systems.
- Ability to read and understand customer and company specifications.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to perform with the highest ethical standards.
- Ability to lead, guide, and/or coordinate with others to include organizing, prioritizing and scheduling work assignments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Product design (mechanical) and product improvement taking into account customer requirements, specifications, functionality, cost and manufacturability.
- Interface with Sales, Manufacturing (including outside suppliers), Vendors, Engineering (including Electrical Engineering), R&D and others.
- Support R&D with various mechanical engineering tasks. May perform testing, may develop and document test protocols.
- Researches and analyzes data such as customer designs, proposal specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.
- Designs products or systems such as instruments, controls, machines, and mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, or heat transfer systems.
- Document and maintain clear and methodical documentation.
- Use mechanical drawings, schematics, diagrams, and computers to develop specific custom applications.
- Design for safety using general principles of prevention.
- Plans fabrication of test control apparatus and equipment, and development of methods and procedures for testing products or systems.
- Collaborate with Project Managers to develop accurate timelines and resource allocation.
- Designs products and systems to interface machines, hardware, and software.
- Ensures designs meet all safety and environmental requirements.
- Evaluates field installations and recommends design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions.
- Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
- Some travel required (less than 5%).

- Company-approved safety glasses or goggles.
- Company approved steel toe shoes.
- Appropriate hand protection.
- Ear protection in designated areas.
- Appropriate hand protection and clothing to include Merrick provided arc flash shirts.
- Fall protection, head protection, respiratory protection and other safety equipment as required by each individual facility.

QUALIFICATIONS

- EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and minimum of 3 years related experience and/or training.
- LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Must be able to communicate technical concepts clearly and concisely verbally and in written form. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability, statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and calculus. Ability to apply advanced math equations to include buckling analysis, equivalent stress, thread and bolt shear and weld calculations.
- REASONING ABILITY: Must be able to independently research and validate various subjects using on-line resources. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- COMPUTER AND SOFTWARE SKILLS: Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel. Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling software (Inventor preferred).
- EQUIPMENT: Computer and other general office equipment. Must be familiar with the use of the most common precision measuring tools used by a machinist. Must be familiar with fabrication/welding techniques and practices; and the use of common hand tools used in the assembly and disassembly of the machinery.
