YOUR ROLE

The Automation Implementation Manager leads the team of Automation Engineers responsible for the integration, deployment, commissioning, and optimization of automated fulfilment solutions for new distribution centers. The role involves managing the team of engineers, coordinating with cross-functional teams, and the original design team, to ensure that all automation projects are executed efficiently, on time, within budget, and meet the client's needs.

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?

  1. Lead, mentor, and manage a team of Automation Engineers responsible for the installation, configuration, testing, validation, and commissioning of automated fulfillment solutions.
  2. Manage multiple, simultaneous automation implementations ensuring resources are allocated appropriately, spending is within predetermined budgets, and projects are executed on time.
  3. Collaborate with Solutions Design to define intended outcomes, define processes accompanying automation solutions, adapt automations to changing requirements, and oversee & approve the change request process.
  4. Oversee the planning and execution of multiple automation projects, ensuring they align with client requirements and company objectives.
  5. Coordinate with project managers, operations, IT, and other stakeholders to ensure technical documents are created, change orders are reviewed & approved, and ensure seamless project execution.
  6. Act as the technical lead for client interactions, providing expertise and guidance throughout the implementation process and ensuring clear communication on project progress, risks, and mitigations.
  7. Conduct system reviews and provide technical approval for engineering designs.
  8. Provide technical guidance, support, and training to ensure the team's continuous development and success.
  9. Partner with Solutions Design to interpret and implement intended designs to ensure successful automation launch, daily interaction with SD until scope is known & ready to implement.
  10. Collaborate with Project Management, Operations, Maintenance, and Integrators on a daily basis to outline actions & expectations, ensure timely completion of actions.
  11. Weekly engagement with IT and Super User teams to successfully configure the WMS system.
  12. Collaborate with External Vendors on a daily & weekly basis to ensure equipment is ordered; lead-times are tracked; and deliveries are on-time, on budget, and on schedule.
  13. Weekly presentations to leadership teams on progress, risks, and mitigation strategies.
  14. Assist in new facility implementations with capital budgets up to $50m.
  15. Assist in new client implementations with annual revenue ranging from $1m-$100m/year.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

Education and Experience:

  1. Minimum 10 years Logistics & Distribution experience
  2. At least 3 years in a managerial or leadership role overseeing automation engineers responsible for implementing highly automated fulfilment solutions such as AS/RS systems, Goods to Person (GTP), Automated Mobile Robots (AMRs), Cobots, Conveyor systems, and Sortation systems.
  3. Proven track record of successful automation implementations in logistics and high volume distribution.
  4. Experience in third party logistics, omni-channel fulfilment, with focus on e-commerce fulfilment solutions.
  5. Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or related field.

Skills:

  1. Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high performing engineering teams.
  2. Strong project management skills with experience leading complex, large-scale projects.
  3. Knowledge of WMS, WCS, WES, PLCs, and SCADA systems.

Characteristics:

  1. Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  2. Ability to engage effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Other:

  1. Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull.
  2. Ability to work in ambient temperature or temperature-controlled facilities.
  3. Ability to travel up to 75% of the time.
