Core Responsibilities:
As a Staff Accountant, you will:
- Provide accounting, cash management, revenue/expenditure monitoring/reporting, and analysis resulting in accurate grant management.
- Reconcile complex accounts, prepare financial information, formulate corrections and make adjusting entries. Formulate and recommend system and process changes through evaluation, analysis, and application of accounting theory.
- Prepare required financial accounting information in order to properly account for and close out accounts and activities.
- Interpret and apply accounting theory and principles and adapt procedures and reporting techniques in order to ensure compliance with governing laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Work across and with teams to support the work goals and the mission.
The DHHS Disability Determination Services’ (DDS) Staff Accountant will contribute to the Department’s mission by helping ensure federal funds are utilized effectively to meet the health and welfare needs of Maine’s citizens.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Six (6) years of practical work experience providing complex technical support to professional accounting staff, or;
- An associates degree from an accredited educational institution in Accounting and 3 years of practical work experience providing complex technical support to professional accounting staff, or;
- Any bachelor’s degree from an accredited educational institution that includes at least 18 semester hours in accounting coursework, or;
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited educational institution in Accounting.
* Accounting coursework must include successful completion of Principles of Accounting I & II, Intermediate Accounting I & II, plus two other accounting-related courses.
** Experience must demonstrate comprehension and application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) guidelines.
