The Group

Morningstar, Inc., a leading global provider of independent investment research and data, is looking for an experienced licensed data seller to serve in Morningstar's Index data business. The Index business is responsible for the creation and distribution of Morningstar's Index Intellectual Property. The group develops new, innovative indexes for use by asset managers, wealth management, and asset owners in serving their clients' investment needs.

The Role

Morningstar Indexes Team seeks a highly motivated Data Sales Director focused on aggressively growing a book of assigned clients and prospects in the asset management, wealth management, asset owner, and hedge fund segments. You will represent Morningstar's suite of Index data products as a specialist and will work with Generalist Sales on opportunities for Index Market Data solutions across both Enterprise and Mid-Market accounts. Because this role covers a wide range of opportunities, it will require approximately 25% travel. This position will be based in Chicago. We are operating in a hybrid environment (3 days/in office).

Job Responsibilities

  1. High performer - exceed quarterly and annual sales targets.
  2. Hunter mentality / growth mindset - this role will require significant hunting (outbound calling, emailing, etc.) and success will depend upon your ability to proactively uncover short- and long-term strategic opportunities with clients and prospects.
  3. Forecasting and pipeline management - as a seller in a defined territory, you will be asked to forecast with accuracy and keep the CRM (Salesforce) clean with appropriate dates, notes, documents, and information.
  4. Proactively collaborate with Index product, marketing, and client service teams to determine optimal solutions for sales opportunities.
  5. Master product demonstrations and knowledge of product capabilities and benefits.
  6. Establish and build key client relationships individually and with the Morningstar generalist sales team covering both enterprise and mid-market accounts.

Qualifications

  1. Candidates should have at least five (5) years of sales and account management experience, preferably in the investment index industry.
  2. Proven track record of exceeding prior annual sales targets.
  3. Ability to build long-term client relationships with executive and senior leadership within an assigned book of business through a hands-on, collaborative, organized approach.
  4. Excellent verbal and written communication abilities and the ability to deliver professional and persuasive presentations.
  5. Ability to understand complex investment concepts.
