SUMMARY
The EMC Engineer will be responsible for developing and implementing test procedures for dynamic and thermal environmental testing of components, subsystems and for products. This Senior engineer will also work with other engineers to support EMC activities. Will work directly with lab management providing guidance and assisting with developments of the lab. Responsible for completing all aspects of regulatory compliance testing and reporting on client products.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Ability to design, setup and execute complete thermal cycle, thermal vacuum testing, vibration, salt spray and shock testing in a fast paced environment.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment for the purposes of conducting testing for: Radiated Emissions, Conducted Emissions, Electrostatic Discharge (ESD), Radiated Immunity, Electrical Fast-Transient Burst, Lightning Surge, Conducted Immunity, Magnetic Fields, Voltage Dips and Interrupts, Flicker, Harmonics
  • Act as lead engineer on complex projects.
  • Assist in execution of tasks under the direction of the technical director / EMC Lead
  • May train other test engineers and test technicians.
  • Test moderate to highly complex equipment. Ensure product meets regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Design and manufacture in-house and external test fixture for thermal cycle, shock, vibration and salt spray.
  • May be asked to assist the EMC Team Lead with test development project quotes and proposals by assisting in defining customer technical requirements, test strategies and selecting test equipment.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationship with customers. Consult with customer on highly complex issues.
  • Document test results for correction actions, report and audits. Analyze test data and determine expected outcome for tests. Identify and report all deviations.
  • Maintain confidentially of all TUV and client information.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Develops and documents standardized test methods and processes to ensure repeatability and productivity.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge, Skill, & Abilities
  • Advanced engineering knowledge, understanding of testing requirements, manufacturing processes and drawings
  • Knowledge of US, Canadian and International EMC standards
  • Experience with electro-dynamic systems such as LDS and UD, data physics shaker systems
  • Excellent communication skills, to relay complex scientific and technical information in a clear, concise, and understandable manner, verbally and in technical writing.
  • Advanced analytical, problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of US and international regulatory standards and approval requirements.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of western consumer values and expectations in regards to foreseeable product use and abuse.
  • Experience in test disciplines in the area of thermal, Vibration, Shock and RF Testing
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and perform multiple tasks while meeting or exceeding deadlines.
  • Ability to travel. Valid driver's license required.
  • Ability to lead a team successfully
  • Microsoft Office and additional EMC software knowledge
  • US person status (including US citizens, permanent residents, asylees and refugees) is a required qualification for this position.
Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical discipline or equivalent education and/or experience in EMC.
  • Regulatory Testing training
Experience:
  • 5-10 years of test experience evaluating products in accordance with EMC product regulatory standards.
  • Experience using automated test tools
  • Experience testing to ANSI, IEC, ISO, CSA, ETSI, EN, SAE, RTCA Standards preferred.
