Duties, Responsibilities & OtherThis is a position for a traffic engineer with 2 or more years of relevant experience to work on public and private sector traffic engineering projects. Typical assignments will include traffic modeling, traffic impact analysis reports, traffic signal design, signal timing plans, intelligent transportation systems (ITS) design, signing and striping plans, and corridor studies.
Duties would include the following:
- Prepare traffic signal, pavement marking, signing, lighting, and maintenance of traffic plans
- Prepare Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) design
- Perform data collection
- Perform traffic impact analyses
- Prepare traffic and safety studies
- Perform traffic analyses
- Perform transportation planning studies
- Prepare quantity and cost estimates
- Prepare written reports
The most qualified candidate will possess the following skills, experience and attributes:
- B.S.C.E. degree required
- E.I.T. certification required; P.E. preferred
- Familiarity with standard references such as the AASHTO Green Book, the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, the Highway Safety Manual and the Highway Capacity Manual
- Familiarity with TxDOT design standards and guidelines
- Computer skills including training in CADD (MICROSTATION, OPEN ROADS, GEOPAK), HCS, SYNCHRO/SIM-TRAFFIC, Vistro, VISSIM, SIDRA, AGi32, Microsoft WORD and Microsoft EXCEL
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required. Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 2 - 4 years of experience in a design related field.
- Pre-employment drug screening is a condition of employment. Background and motor vehicle checks may be required based upon position.
- Complete Annual Individual Training Program
- Train adequate backup personnel to support your role in your absence
- Comply with all KCI policies and procedures
- Ensure projects fulfill ISO compliance requirements
- Complete other duties as required/assigned
- Achieve or exceed budgeted individual utilization target(80-85% typical)
- Attend bi-weekly(or more frequently as necessary) meetings with project team on all projects/tasks
- Complete all tasks on time and within budget while fully meeting the scope
- Consult and coordinate with other practices and sub-consultants as required
- Operate within specified (corporate or project) budget parameters
- Compare field data to base plan
- Conduct site visits and gather data, including measurements, sketches, notes and photographs as needed
- Prepare design calculations, drawings, specifications and cost estimates for review and approval
- Prepare preliminary concept designs and submit for approval
- Read and interpret technical documents needed for performance of job
- Review and approve shop drawings
