Market Development Department

The Market Development (MD) team is responsible for 3 key functions within our NA business: 1) market strategy, 2) site selection & acquisition, and 3) vertical market expansion planning. The MD team leads the land and due diligence budget and execution for market expansions across North America, including identification of new markets, expansion planning efforts and completion of schematic design for handoff to construction. We are at the front-end of the process of ensuring we have the critical capacity required to meet the evolving requirements of our wholesale and hyperscale customer base We evaluate supply, demand, pricing, power availability and other market factors to inform site acquisition, site development and construction when developing our market plans. The team collaborates with Sales, Solution Engineering, Construction, Operations, Finance and Senior Management. One thing that distinguishes Vantage is that our staff are given the responsibility and authority to directly drive tangible results.

Position Overview

This role can be based in any of our US locations: Denver, CO; Phoenix, AZ; Santa Clara, CA; or Ashburn, VA.

We are seeking an experienced Manager or Sr. Manager, Market Strategy to lead our team of market analysts in support of market strategy and site selection efforts. This role will work within the Market Development team and be responsible for keeping a constant pulse on market activity, customer intelligence and competitor intelligence for existing and new Vantage markets. This person will lead the market analyst team while performing the day-day operation and responsibilities of the program, including the following:

  • Leading internal and external partner teams; successfully lead programs involving peers within and outside of the Market Strategy pillar and demonstrate leadership by influence

  • Continuously reviewing, tracking and analyzing market data in all VDC's existing and planned geographies, incorporating information from third party analysts, industry contacts, news and other sources

  • Providing thought leadership on market sizing activities and be able to demonstrate in a clear and thoughtful way the opportunities that Vantage has in a particular market or sector; deriving insights from this research to produce develop clear, concise recommendations to leadership

  • Collaborating with senior leaders to align department goals with overall Market Development vision

This people-leader will possess a unique blend of data analysis, program management and stakeholder management capabilities. The ideal candidate has shown success in standing up new programs and operating existing ones in a fast-paced, ambiguous or high-stakes environment, and is able to formulate recommendations from multiple complex and varied data sources.

Essential Job Functions

Program Management

  • Coordinates the work of the overall team, synthesizing market information to produce actionable insights and maintaining a current viewpoint and investment recommendation on all NA markets. Analysis includes the following:

    • Market Intelligence

    • Competitor Intelligence

    • Customer Intelligence, including working with the sales function

    • Industry Intelligence

  • Plans and implements strategies within their team contributing to the achievement of broader goals, ensuring that teams activities are always in service of the larger VDC goals

  • Handles partner inputs to the groups function, including Tax, Public Policy, Energy, Sales and other partner teams

  • Collaborates with other managers and directors

  • Develops recommendations to the land acquisition (SSA) team

  • Collaborates with the GIS and Reporting function within the team to ensure that market strategy directives are continuously reflected in tools and reporting

  • Tracks essential critical metrics related to market development

Stakeholder Management:

  • Engages with internal and external partners to keep a current POV on all markets

  • Communicates market status, updates, and risks to partners

  • Facilitates meetings and presentations to keep partners informed and engaged (e.g. Market Strategy monthly updates)

  • Builds and maintains positive relationships with partners to ensure satisfaction and support

  • Demonstrates confident communication and the ability to achieve results cross-functionally across multiple business units

Additional Duties:

  • Handles additional duties as assigned by Management.

Job Requirements

  • Education:

    • Bachelor's degree experience in business, Construction, Real Estate, Finance or another related field.

  • Experience:

    • 8- 12 years of proven experience

    • Experience running programs which require partner input and communications in a high-stakes environment

    • 2-3+ years people management experience

    • Experience in data center the data center or site selection/real estate industry highly preferred

  • Skills:

    • Must be fluent with PowerPoint or Google Slides and demonstrate basic analysis with Microsoft excel

    • Strong project management skills, with experience using project management tools

    • Excellent interpersonal skills

    • Proven track record to lead multiple projects simultaneously

    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

    • Travel required is expected to be up to 5% but may increase over time as the business evolves.

Additional Details

  • Salary Range: $130,000 - $150,000 Base + Bonus (this range is based on Colorado market data and may vary in other locations)

  • Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including your qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience and may fall outside of the range shown.
