Job Summary
Battelle is seeking a Senior Semiconductor Optics Engineer . This position is located in Beavercreek / Dayton, OH .
Battelle's Cyber team in Dayton, OH is looking for a Senior Semiconductor Optics Engineer to join our multi-disciplinary team, bringing together the brightest minds ranging from Physics to Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. The team works to develop, evaluate, and test unique physical and embedded security solutions for our government. The successful candidate will enjoy hands-on lab work developing outside of the box experimental testing methods. As a Semiconductor Optics Engineer IV at Battelle you will have the opportunity to hone your skills analyzing hard problems that arise from evaluating and testing physical and embedded systems.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Battelle Cyber Trust and Assurance team developing state-of-the-art integrated circuit security solutions ranging from design, verification, and testing of electronic devices, integrated circuits, and embedded systems using optical techniques such as LIVA, TIVA, OBIRCH, PEM, TRE, etc.
- Develop custom optical solutions from COTS optics, lasers, fibers and detectors to demonstrate proof of concept and propose a path forward for security solutions. Requires optical system design, troubleshooting, operation, experimentation, etc. largely based on free-space optical microscopes.
- Identify and articulate the strengths and weaknesses of solutions, conclusions, and problem approaches during technical discussions.
- Work with internal stakeholders to support the preparation of presentations and reports. Provide input, perform demonstrations, or present on tasks during customer meetings.
Key Qualifications
- 8+ years experience in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, Computer Engineering, or related field of study, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Firm understanding and experience in semiconductor test and measurement techniques including electrical and/or optical characterization.
- Hands-on experience in tabletop/benchtop/free-space optics and fiber optic systems.
- Demonstrated experience designing, constructing, troubleshooting, and operating custom optics test instrumentation.
- Demonstrated experience designing, constructing, programming, troubleshooting, and testing electronics; embedded systems, ASICs, FPGA, MCUs, etc.
- Must be a US citizen with a Secret clearance (prior to start date) and the ability to obtain or maintain a Top-Secret Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's +5 years or PhD +3 years in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering Physics, Computer Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
- Strong bench skills, including digital and analog circuit prototyping, application-specific test & measurement instrument design.
- Experience in electronics or semiconductor test and measurement techniques including electrical and/or optical characterization (ex. Oscilloscopes, power supplies, waveform generators, electrical lab test equipment).
- Experience in reverse engineering, verification and validation, and/or device processing for fabrication of integrated circuits.
- Experience with numerical modeling techniques for Electromagnetic, photonic, and thermal physics.
- Experience in data visualization, signal processing, statistical techniques, and technical writing.
- Solid understanding and experience with test scripting languages and communication protocols including Python, NI LabView, MATLAB, and USB or serial instrumentation automation.
