Job Opportunity: Senior Engineer

Location: Midlands (Multiple Projects)

Salary: Competitive (DOE) + Comprehensive Package - ideally this is a permanent role however, would consider freelance for the right person.



We are seeking a highly experienced and proactive Senior Engineer to take ownership of key engineering aspects on high-value commercial and industrial retail projects across the Midlands, with project values up to £40 million. This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated engineer looking to lead and make an impact on high-profile builds while working across multiple projects.



Key Roles and Responsibilities:


  1. Design Review & Value Engineering: Evaluate civil works designs, identify cost-saving opportunities, and implement value engineering (VE) wherever possible.
  2. Material Management: Handle take-offs, ordering, and forecasting of materials, including concrete for service yards and office floor slabs. Oversee warehouse floor slab contracts for line/level/QA purposes.
  3. Cost Tracking: Collaborate with the QS and project teams to monitor and track material costs effectively.
  4. Technical Support: Act as the primary liaison between project teams and subcontractors, offering technical support, insights, and experience throughout the project lifecycle.
  5. Groundworks Mapping: Provide short-term (4-6 weeks) detailed groundworks maps when required, ensuring clear and concise guidance for the project teams.
  6. Site Information & Setting Out: Ensure site engineers have the most up-to-date project information, generate setting out models when needed, and occasionally assist with setting out duties.
  7. Earthworks & Quality Assurance: Take ownership of the Earthworks QA file. Oversee that contractors adhere to their ITP, ensuring surveys, testing records, and results are properly uploaded to Procore and validated.
  8. Service Avoidance Plan: Collaborate with project teams to create and manage the site’s Service Avoidance Plan , and update as-builts weekly alongside site engineers.
  9. Site Management Support: Be ready to assist with general site management duties, including inductions and basic RAMS sign-offs, and provide cover as site lead in the absence of senior site management.

About You:


  1. Extensive experience in civil and structural engineering within commercial and industrial construction
  2. Strong ability to review designs and implement value engineering
  3. Proven expertise in material management, QA, and groundworks
  4. Strong leadership and communication skills to liaise between teams and subcontractors
  5. Proficiency with software like Procore for QA management and documentation
  6. Hands-on experience with setting out, earthworks, and service avoidance plans
  7. A problem-solver who is adaptable, flexible, and capable of handling general site management tasks when required
