Position Summary
The Customer Care Self-Service Group manages several interactive offerings across phone and chat channels to resolve customer issues and inquiries quickly and completely. We leverage the latest LLMs, tools, and methodologies to build Generative AI solutions for voice and messaging applications, processing many millions of conversations annually. Our work reduces customer effort, increases customer satisfaction, and reduces Walmart operational costs - we have an ambitious multi-year roadmap and are looking for a strong engineering manager to lead the Chat Assistant team through this journey.
What You'll Do
- Own Walmart Care Chat Assistant engineering, leveraging GenAI and bot technologies to resolve customer issues and improve customer experience. Solve for customer pain points, business objectives, and platform improvements to continuously improve our rate of impact and return on investment.
- Lead the work of 12 to 20 engineers for assigned Engineering projects by providing pertinent documents, direction, and examples; identifying short- and long-term solutions and timeline; reviewing and approving proposed solutions; implementing new architectural patterns; and performing design and code reviews of changes.
- Support the development of applications leveraging F#, Python, and FE technologies (React Framework & Typescript, native iOS and Android applications).
- Build, develop and guide high-performing talent for the Care Assistant Engineering team. Meet 1-on-1 with engineers to coach and discuss career objectives and growth opportunities.
- Support business objectives by collaborating with internal partners to identify opportunities; addressing high-priority initiatives; identifying short- and long-term solutions; and leading cross-functional partnership.
- Lead the discovery phase of medium to large projects to come up with high-level design by partnering with the product management, project management, business and user experience teams; obtaining cross-function approvals; driving proof-of-concept; and implementing prototypes to validate ideas.
- Utilize industry research to improve Walmart's technology environment by analyzing industry best practices; benchmarking industry against internal processes and solutions; researching or influencing future industry solutions for fit with internal needs; and defining software development guidelines, standards and processes.
- Ensure business needs are being met by evaluating the ongoing effectiveness of current plans, programs, and initiatives; consulting with business partners, managers, co-workers, or other key stakeholders; soliciting, evaluating, and applying suggestions for improving efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Create a collaborative environment across geographies for delivering best services to customers around the globe.

- Provide supervision, mentoring and development opportunities for associates who report into you.

What You'll Bring
- 10+ years of relevant experience in building highly resilient, highly scalable systems.
- 5+ years of experience as a Technical Lead or Managerial role.
- Hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, Cloud (Azure/GCP/AWS), Kafka (or other messaging service), GraphQL and NoSQL (Cassandra, Cosmos etc.).
- Should be hands on writing/reviewing design & code.
- Strong desire to drive change, and ability to adapt to change quickly. Proficient in new and emerging technologies.
- Ability to balance the long-term "big picture" and short-term implications of design decisions.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills - including negotiation, facilitation, and consensus building skills; ability to influence and persuade, without direct control.
- Mentoring/coaching staff engineers and other Engineers.
Minimum Qualifications

Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 5 years' experience in software engineering or related area. Option 2: 7 years' experience in software engineering or related area. 2 years' supervisory experience.
