Job Description
About the Role
The Huntington’s Finance team is seeking an Accountant who is proactive, self-directed, and who will be an exceptional addition to our team. Reporting to the Manager of Accounting, responsibilities include the accurate processing and reporting of revenue transactions, monthly and quarterly sales tax calculations and remittance, fixed asset accounting, and assistance in the preparation of the annual Form 990 return. The candidate will have a good understanding of finance/accounting reporting, processes, procedures and internal controls. Support other revenue related activities as needed (back-up):
Record contribution and pledge revenue from a variety of sources (i.e., cash check, credit card, lockbox, stock gifts, online channels, etc.) and work with department staff to determine the correct general ledger and revenue allocations
Assist with the monthly revenue reconciliations between the Finance and Advancement teams
On a daily basis, record and analyze membership, admission, and program revenue (and respective processing fees) using external reports provided by our third-party ticketing system (Ticketure)
On a daily basis, record and analyze the Huntington Store retail revenue using external reports provided by our third-party point-of-sale systems (Teamwork & Shopify)
Maintain customer master file in Workday
Prepare customer invoices and revenue recognition activities with close coordination with the Special Events and Filming Departments
Adhere to the month- and quarter-end general ledger close timelines and any external audit requests
Responsible for all sales and use tax monthly estimated tax submissions and the quarterly filing of the sales tax return
Preparation of fixed asset related journal entries and audit schedules, including asset capitalization, construction-in-progress, and depreciation.
Prepares grant reimbursement requests, accruals, and ad hoc reporting on grants for Advancement as needed
Assists in the preparation of the annual Form 990 with external tax advisers, as well as other required tax submissions
Candidate Requirements and Experience
Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field is required or equivalent experience
Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience
Experience with accounting in a nonprofit institution (preferred)
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Proficient with Microsoft Excel and its key functions (i.e., pivot tables, vlookups)
Basic accounting principles (GAAP) understanding, specifically around revenue and accounts receivable
Experience in nonprofit tax preparation (preferred)
Strong analytical skills and ability to work collaboratively with others
Effective planning and priority setting; ability to manage several workstreams of various complexity while meeting various deadlines
Strong work ethic, well organized, and a self-starter
Detail oriented, professional attitude, and reliable
Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
Workday software system experience (highly preferred)
Working Conditions
This position is based at The Huntington’s offices in San Marino, CA. Working hours will be 37.5 hours per week.
Work is primarily performed in an office environment; prolonged periods of sitting, use of computers and standard office equipment required to accomplish work objectives.
Remote work up to two days per week may be possible.
