POSITION SUMMARY:
The Global Security Officer (GSO) serves as the HQ Security representative to develop and coordinate activities in support of Project HOPE’s duty of care policy which endeavor to protect the safety and security of employees against reasonably foreseeable dangers in the workplace. The GSO proactively supports the HQ Security department through interacting with Safety and Security Focal Points and Security Managers. They have the delegated responsibility for the day-to-day management and coordination of field security activities, helps to ensure compliance with corporate security policies and procedures and maintains close liaison with the Global Security department. They will support Project HOPE’s LAC projects/portfolio and will assist with the implementation of a security strategy for the region as per project specific requirements and will also support new business with appropriate security approaches. This position also contributes to the formulation and implementation of planned strategies and initiatives to enhance Global security programs.
PRINICIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide support in occupation health, safety, and security management for Project HOPE’s HQ and Country offices globally with a special focus on LAC and Caribbean region.
- The GSO will play a critical support role as the Latin America & Caribbean Global Security Department’s Lead where she will focus her technical skills and expertise for security assistance to the LAC region. They will also be leading several cross-cutting initiatives involving security incident reporting, crisis management planning, travel security training, & management of the Global Security SharePoint page.
- Monitor compliance with safety, security and emergency preparedness-related organizational policies and procedures.
- Review the effectiveness and efficiency of safety, security, and emergency preparedness-related activities.
- Assist SSFPS with the development, testing and ensure all LAC project Emergency Action Plans are current, maintained, applicable and being implemented by the projects.
- Manage tracking of all safety and security trainings completed by Project HOPE HQ and international staff and assist in the scheduling and contracting for outside training providers.
- Liaise with training providers to create Project HOPE -specific course content and ensure feedback is integrated into course.
- Update information included in the ISOS Travel Tracker to include message manager, expat, and international traveler’s tracker, building tracker and other communications.
- Assist Global Security Manager in the contracts management of the department, and technical services Support Global Security procurement and payment of subscribed services.
- Ensure, through the SSFP’s, that HQ travelers to and new employees in LAC are provided briefings on security environments, that needed trainings are completed by the traveler/employee.
- Develop and maintain strong communication with Regional Directors, Country Representatives and Global Supply Chain and Security Department.
- Provide support and manage incident tracking to ensure proper functioning and assist in the creation of reports and information sharing on security trends within Project HOPE.
- Assist with the creation and writing of security guidance tools and policies.
- Support Global Security Manager with security briefing and trainings for new hires related to the safety and security department and procedures.
- Represent the Global Security department internally and externally at meetings and presentations.
- Assist in the creation of Global safety and security presentations.
- Administrative functions, including invoicing and expense reconciling.
- Network with Security and Safety staff in similar positions within the INGO/NGO/IO sector.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in social sciences, security or related discipline, security risk training.
- Excellent organizational skills, detail-orientated and flexible work style.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Fluency in Spanish and English (both written and oral communication).
- At least 5 years of security management experience in humanitarian and development contexts.
- Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Expertise with Microsoft Office software.
- Experience writing and implementing security policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Willing and able to travel as needed to support all projects in all LAC countries.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous experience with the humanitarian sector and security/safety components of INGO operations.
- Previous work experience in hostile, post-conflict environments preferably in LAC region.
- Strong working knowledge in travel and security management concepts.
