Position : Software Asset Manager

Location : Overland Park, KS (Hybrid: 3 days in-office)

Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled Software Asset Manager to oversee the daily management of global software assets. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of software license models, IT Asset Management (ITAM) best practices, and will ensure corporate compliance across global locations. This role is essential in optimizing software usage, maintaining license compliance, and supporting corporate strategies for software acquisition and renewal.

Key Responsibilities :

• Software License Management :
• Oversee and monitor software licenses globally, ensuring compliance with vendor terms and conditions.
• Review and analyze software license requests to determine whether new licensing or reuse is appropriate.
• Optimize software license utilization by identifying opportunities for reclamation and cost savings.
• Software Asset Management & Compliance :
• Ensure effective service delivery of software services via ServiceNow , particularly in Asset and SAM Pro .
• Maintain accurate software asset databases, tracking entitlements, allocations, and related contract information.
• Support external software audits, including readiness assessments, vendor coordination, data analysis, and remediation efforts.
• Reporting & Analysis :
• Generate and validate software license reports, particularly for contract renewals, and assist business representatives in understanding licensing models and compliance.
• Analyze software usage trends, provide insights on maintenance/support requirements, and coordinate with business lines to develop strategies for acquisitions and renewals.
• Automation & Process Improvement :
• Leverage tools and automation to streamline software information collection (installation and usage), simplifying processes and enhancing reporting accuracy.
• Develop exception-based reporting to enhance compliance monitoring and optimize license management processes.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Experience : Minimum of 5 years of experience in software asset management or related IT roles.
• Certifications (Preferred):
• SAM (Software Asset Management)
• ITAM (IT Asset Management)
• ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library)
• ITSM (IT Service Management)
• Technical Skills :
• Proficiency with ServiceNow Asset Management and SAM Pro .
• Strong command of Microsoft Office Suite .
• Thorough knowledge of software asset management best practices and software industry nomenclature .
• Familiarity with commercial terms, contract compliance, and general IT procurement processes.
• Additional Skills :
• Expertise in procurement , audit readiness , data analysis , and software asset database management.
• Experience supporting software maintenance programs, including license renewals and remediation efforts.
• Ability to coordinate software support and acquisition strategies with business stakeholders and vendors.

Educational Requirements:

• Higher Education : A university or college degree in a relevant field is preferred.

Key Competencies:

• Data Analysis : Ability to gather, organize, and interpret software usage data to inform decision-making and compliance monitoring.
• Software Audit & Compliance : Strong understanding of external software audits, including readiness, analysis, and communication.
• Optimization : Experience in identifying opportunities to optimize license utilization and reduce costs.
