Education:
Bachelor’s degree in public or business administration, accounting, or a related field.

Experience and Skills:
Required:

  • A minimum of 5+ years in Financial Aid Programs or related experience.
  • A minimum of 2+ years of supervisory experience.
  • Completion of the 2024-2025 NASFAA Professional Credentials.
  • Working knowledge of university policies and procedures, and all state and federal regulations relating to Financial Aid.
  • Proficiency with Ellucian Banner Student Information System.
  • Ability to research, interpret, and summarize relevant laws.
  • Extensive background in areas related to financial aid; ability to analyze data and create budgets; extensive experience with award package computer programs and loan processing programs.
  • Strong interpersonal and management/administrative skills; skills and abilities to effectively communicate both verbally and in written form; skills to effectively deal with technical problems or know whom to contact with such issues.
  • Ability to meet and work effectively with employees, as well as other faculty and department heads; ability to interact with students in an administrative and supportive manner.
  • Necessary computer knowledge and the ability to work with spreadsheet software, personnel systems, databases, word processing, Internet, and e-mail programs.

Preferred:

  • Education:
    Master’s degree in public or business administration, accounting, or related field and is a NASFAA Certified Financial Aid Administrator.
  • A minimum of 7+ years of work experience leading a proficient financial aid team.
  • Experience managing a team on multiple campuses.
  • A NASFAA Certified Financial Aid Administrator.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Primary Responsibilities

Summary:
Function: To direct all activities of Financial Aid for the University to include federal, state, and institutional funds. A member of the Enrollment Management Leadership team.

Scope: Responsible for leading, supervising, and developing a team of financial aid professionals at the Alpine, Del Rio, Eagle Pass, and Uvalde campuses. Responsible for overseeing the administering of financial aid to university students and assisting in the coordination of university scholarships. Recommends and interprets financial aid policy and ensures uniform adherence to the established policies. Monitors the delivery of financial aid monies and ensures amounts are awarded to students as appropriate. Works directly with the Director of Enrollment Management to plan, coordinate, and implement operating procedures for the financial aid programs.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages and supervises the staff, including conducting performance evaluations, and ensures that the department adheres to state, federal, and university policies and regulations.
  • Stays abreast of state and federal regulations for the various financial aid programs.
  • Compiles necessary information and materials to administer financial aid monitors students’ financial needs and ensures that financial aid is dispersed appropriately.
  • Applies to the state and national granting agencies for renewal of funding for financial aid programs.
  • Set operations policy for the financial aid office and the university about student financial aid.
  • Required to read, review, and interpret state and federal regulations.
  • Participates with all university departments in problem-solving issues regarding financial aid.
  • Works with university recruiting and scholarship committees to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Reviews and implements weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual fund balance reports that will be submitted to the Executive Director of Enrollment Management for review.
  • Participates in various campus committees, policy recommendations, and student appellant process.
  • Responsible for writing, maintaining, and updating the policies and procedures manual.
  • The ability to speak and present at internal and external events.
  • Responsible for personal safety and the safety of others; must exercise due caution and practice safe work habits at all times.
  • Responsible for complete system maintenance as well as implementing new technology.
  • Represent the university at the local, regional, state, and national levels on financial aid matters.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Supervision

Received: Works under the supervision of the Executive Director of Enrollment Services.
Given: The Financial Aid staff.

Working Conditions

Usual: Normal office conditions; some travel required; exempt from overtime provisions. The position is Security Sensitive.

Any qualifications to be considered instead of stated minimums require the prior approval of the Human Resources Director.
