The optimum candidate will have a basic knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems and a desire to learn, grow, and assume additional responsibility. As the Assistant to the Data Center Facilities Manager, you will assist with day-to-day requirements, regular preventative maintenance, vendor management, and all aspects of the critical systems on-site. You will be responsible for reporting daily operational metrics made during rounds, supervising vendors while they are on sites and assuring all safety and industry standards are followed. Our ideal candidate must be mechanically inclined. If you have never worked in a data center this is fine and makes this a great entrance and opportunity into the field growing faster than any other field currently.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate critical electrical systems including utility power, generators, UPS systems, switchgear, PDU systems, power feed equipment, and power busways
- Operate critical mechanical systems including computer room air conditioners, chillers, cooling towers, fire detection/suppression, etc.
- Supervise vendors to ensure that all work is performed according to best practice and established procedures
- Follow preventative maintenance MOPs (Method of procedures), schedules, vendor relationships, etc.
- Work for the Data Center Site Manager to facilitate customer tours, installs, etc. to ensure the highest customer satisfaction
- Work within established policies including change control and other best practices
- Maintain a constant state of readiness for electrical and mechanical systems
- Heavy focus on safety work practices and adherence to established safety protocols established by the primary safety officer
- Compliance to all required reporting to the site data center manager
Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of critical electrical systems in a data center environment including:
- UPS systems
- Generator systems
- Electrical switch gear
- Power distribution
- Basic knowledge of critical mechanical and HVAC systems in a data center environment
- DX units, standard CRAC’s (Computer room air conditioners)
- Basic knowledge of fire suppression systems
- Basic knowledge of monitoring critical electrical and mechanical systems
- CT management and replacements
- Setting thresholds and alarm notification settings
- Working knowledge of monitoring technologies and methodologies (EPMS, BMS, SCADA, DCIM)
- Basic knowledge of MOP, SOP, and RCA documentation
- Basic knowledge of preventative maintenance for electrical and mechanical systems
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Outlook
- Must be able to write at a high school graduate level. Communicating via E-mail and writing documentation with clear, concise information will be key for this role.
- A basic knowledge of budgets
- Experience with site safety programs and initiatives
- Basic knowledge of structured cabling in a telecom or data center environment
