Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.ELECTROMAGNETIC ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECTS TEST TECHNICIAN (EMC/EMI)As a member of our fast-paced Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) team, you will be responsible for ensuring avionics hardware performance across our fleet of vehicles (Dragon, Falcon, Starship, Human Landing System, etc.) through some of the harshest and varied electromagnetic environments imaginable. The E3 team at SpaceX performs exhaustive analysis, design, and test at the board, unit, subsystem, and system levels with extensive opportunity to interact with a vast array of rocket, spacecraft, and ground support equipment hardware and electronics. As one of the few teams required to interface with the design, manufacturing, integration, and mission operations teams, we play a critical role in the development of our systems. These systems support SpaceX's goals of developing broadband satellite internet and safe, reliable, inexpensive, and innovative access to space with the fundamental goal of expanding human space exploration capabilities and establishing a permanent human presence on the Moon and Mars.RESPONSIBILITIES:Perform EMC/EMI emission and immunity testing of electrical systems and its components for consumer and commercial applicationsRead, interpret, and work from free-form drawings as well as from controlled documentation and processesDesign and fabricate electro-mechanical assemblies, harnesses and test fixtures from conceptual drawingsOperate a spectrum analyzer, VNA, power meter, high-power amplifier, and oscilloscopePerform antenna and shielding effectiveness measurementsIndependently perform verifications and document results in a clear, precise and complete mannerTroubleshoot complex problems independently with minimal directionSupport engineers and test management with standardized testing and R&D projectsMaintain test equipment and test facilities and oversee the equipment calibration processBASIC QUALIFICATIONS:Associate's degree in an electronics discipline or 2+ years of direct work experience in electronics2+ years of experience performing testing of consumer electronics or electrical hardware2+ years of experience fabricating test fixtures, harnesses and electro-mechanical assembliesPREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:Familiarity with FCC Part 15, Part 25, EN55032, EN 55024/35, EN 61000, MIL-STD-1541, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-464, DO-160G specificationsExperience in a fast-paced test environment with flight hardwareAble to support R&D efforts in addition to standardized testingFamiliarity with semi-anechoic chamber specifications, design and maintenanceExperience with lab accreditation for self-certification purposes (i.e. ISO/IEC 17025, A2LA, or NVLAP)Able to adapt to constantly changing work assignments and fast-paced work environmentAble to program simple scripts in python for test logging and controlAble to efficiently draft fixtures, tools, structures, and electrical schematics using a CAD systemAble to troubleshoot unit and test rack issues with little to no supervisionAble to author and redline clear and concise test procedures, build procedures, and process instructionsExcellent concentration and attention to detail with outstanding work efficiency and accuracyExcellent communication (written and verbal) and teamwork skillsAbility to read and interpret schematics (engineering drawings, circuit layouts, and parts lists), cable harnesses (wiring diagrams, layout drawings, and parts lists), and mechanical assemblies (mechanical drawings and parts lists)ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:Repetitive assembly operations, grasping, standing, lifting, bending, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying are generally required to perform the functions of this positionMust be able to lift 25 lbs. unassistedExtended hours and weekend work may be required to support critical project and mission milestonesAble to travel for short trips as neededCOMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:Pay Range:EMI/EMC Test Technician/Level 1: $23.00 - $31.00/hourEMI/EMC Test Technician/Level 2: $28.00 - $37.00/hourEMI/EMC Test Technician/Level 3: $33.00 - $43.00/hourYour actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
