The Senior Claims Consultant role presents an opportunity to join one of the fastest growing firms in the industry and play a significant role in shaping a team of consultants into an innovative group. The Senior Claims Consultant is the owner of their own Book of Business and operates as the claim subject matter expert to lead their client's risk management profile through active advocacy and industry knowledge.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Technical insurance expert.
  2. Understands complex placement structures and alternative insurance options (i.e. captives).
  3. Leads and coordinates all claim services.
  4. Creates and drives client claim/risk management strategy while ensuring Virtus standards are met.
  5. As requested, assist with marketing of program and alternative program options.
  6. Develop Client Claim Service Plan: Create, deploy, and showcase accountability. Assist with client/prospect claim evaluation process, interview client, develop presentation, assist with creation of proposal and delivery to client then establish a service plan.
  7. Develops client relationships at all levels with both insurance decision makers, day to day leaders and those influencing the decision makers.
  8. Assists with new business opportunities including RFPs.
  9. Engage in client service issues including claim and risk control.
  10. Independently manages complex claims, coverage, and litigation.
  11. Review and understand contract insurance provisions.
  12. Review contract insurance provisions against insurance programs.
  13. Leads prospect and client presentations and meetings.
  14. Leads claim communications with internal and external clients.
  15. Develops and conducts training for internal and external clients. Mentors and teaches team members.
  16. Understand and translate specialty coverages proficiently.
  17. Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  18. Draft coverage response communication independently.
  19. Own the TPA workflow to include RFPs, selection, Oversight and Management/Accountability. Assist with client onboarding process with carriers/TPA’s. Establish carrier relationships to drive meaningful results.
  20. Build, deploy and manage any necessary special handling instructions.
  21. Assist with the completion of ad hoc projects as needed.
  22. Other duties as assigned by the team and leadership.

Education and Experience:

  1. Property and Casualty insurance experience required. 7+ years of P&C claims experience preferred.
  2. MBA or Juris Doctorate preferred.
  3. Active Property & Casualty license required.
  4. Broker/Carrier Level Property and Casualty insurance and Claim Program advocacy experience is required.
  5. Experience with specialty coverages such as E&O, Management Liability, Cyber preferred.
  6. Position requires direct communication with clients; therefore, strong written, oral and presentation communication skills, with a commitment to impeccable client service are required; ability to adjust easily to working well with a variety of workstyles.
  7. Ability to develop and sustain relationships at C-Suite Level, along with working in a team environment that is constantly evolving.
  8. Ability to manage and analyze high volumes of complex information.
  9. Advanced analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  10. Keen ability to persuade internal and external stakeholders. Inspires Confidence in others.
  11. Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail.
  12. Great, positive attitude and the ability to work under pressure.
  13. Ability to complete quality work without supervision and can make a tough decision look easy.
  14. Must have familiarity and good working knowledge of various Microsoft software applications (Excel), Agency Management Systems, and the ability to learn new software systems.

Location:

Kansas City Homebase office preferred. However, we are open to hybrid and remote placements - we have multiple US locations and enjoy and value in-person work. Relocation to corporate office available.

Travel:

Approximately 10-15% and/or dependent on client needs.
