Examples of Duties
Program and Policy Management
* Develop, promote, and implement a comprehensive intramural sports program
* Assist in the administration of the RSS Sport Club Program
* Develop, interpret, review, and enforce Competitive Sports policies and procedures
* Assist with the advisement & mentorship of sport club officers
* Implement risk management procedures for Competitive Sports activities
* Assist in providing guidance and mentorship to the Sport Club Advisory Council
Personnel Management
* Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and evaluate 20+ student staff to serve as supervisors, sport officials, and clerical employees.
* Coordinate the planning and evaluation of the Sport Officials Development Program (training clinics, on-field/court evaluations, recognition, and awards
* Serve as the advisor for the SIU Student Officials Association and seek local officiating opportunities for student officiating development
* Develop and implement staff training and development for Competitive Sports employees and assist the RSS Program Director with departmental student training and development.
Fiscal Management
* Manage the Competitive Sports program annual budget (payroll, sport club accounts, procurement of equipment, and revenue generating activities)
* Document & maintain the Competitive Sports inventory
* Coordinate routine inspections of equipment and facilities
* Develop maintenance schedules and safety checklists
Strategic Management and Planning
* Collaborate with marketing staff to identify and develop marketing strategies and promotional efforts to educate campus community about competitive sport programming
* Make strategic recommendations for future programs and services.
* Implement assessment for Competitive Sports programming and assist in the departmental assessment process
* Other Duties As Assigned
Qualifications
  1. Any one of the following, from the categories below:
    1. Master's degree in a field relevant to the position (e.g., Kinesiology, Sports Management, Exercise Science, Recreation, or closely related field)
      OR
    2. Final semester or completed Graduate Assistantship with campus recreation or similar department performing duties for two (2) academic years consistent in area of specialization inherent to the position. *
      OR
    3. Bachelor's degree in a field relevant to the position (e.g., Kinesiology, Sports Management, Exercise Science, Recreation, or closely related field)
      AND
      One (1) year (12 months) of work experience in the promotion, design, development, and/or administration of recreational programs.
      OR
    4. Four (4) years (48 months) of work experience in promotion, design, development, and/or administration of recreational programs, intercollegiate athletics, campus recreation, park district or similar organization that provides similar program.
*Specialty Factor: Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver Sports Officiating training in various sports (softball, basketball, volleyball, flag football, soccer, etc.)*
*Note: Students in the final semester of a Master's Degree program, may be allowed to complete a credential examination and will receive full consideration, including being interviewed. An offer may be extended with understanding that proof of degree based on institution is provided to the employing institution Human Resources Office at least two weeks before the proposed start date.
**Note: Newly hired employees may be required to obtain and/or maintain certifications in American Red Cross, CPR/AED/First Aid and Blood Borne Pathogens and similar certifications.
