Job Requirements / Description

Job Summary

The Metallo lab aims to understand how metabolism contributes to the progression of cancer and other age-related diseases. We study how alterations in carbohydrate, amino acid, and lipid metabolism across distinct organs influence cellular processes and lead to cancer, immune cell dysfunction, and neurological disorders. We apply isotope tracing and mass spectrometry-based metabolomics to cell culture, organoid, and animal models of cancer, diabetes, and neuropathy, covering a range of biochemical pathways.

A funded postdoctoral position is available for scientists and engineers interested in exploring metabolism in disease models. An emphasis is placed on cross-training within the lab, so trainees can gain expertise on technologies for manipulating biological systems and quantifying metabolic fluxes using stable isotope tracing and mass spectrometry while addressing important biological problems. Ideal candidates should be intellectually curious, organized, and prepared to formulate interesting questions. Experience with cell culture, mouse modeling, or biological chemistry preferred.

Education:

PhD or MD/PhD in Biochemistry, Engineering, Biological Sciences, Plant Science, or a related field.

What We Can Offer

The full postdoctoral salary range for wet lab opportunities is $70,000-$77,500 (see below). This range covers the entire postdoctoral training period; recent Ph.D. graduates should expect an offer at or close to $70,000 (minimum of the salary range). Salk Institute provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the institute reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.

Benefits

Salk Institute offers competitive benefits, including medical, dental, vision, retirement, paid time off, tuition reimbursement, patient advocacy services, and transit/parking program.
