Job Summary
TCT has an opportunity for a Mechanical cost estimator to join our growing firm. This position will assist in preparing accurate and timely material and labor estimates for HVAC, Plumbing & Fire Protection systems. The estimator will interact with vendors to compile a responsible and accurate estimate of HVAC, Plumbing & Fire Protection costs for projects consistent with the project plans and specifications. Job duties include but are not limited to:
- Estimating various systems in HVAC, Plumbing & Fire Protection.
- Analyze & understand construction drawings & narratives
- Accurate HVAC, Plumbing & Fire Protection quantity take-off experience
- Prepare scopes of work where applicable and note special conditions.
- Note any special conditions or considerations taken while in take-off mode on drawings.
- Assist in take-off of work in place estimates of ongoing work as required by construction group.
- Maintain accurate and organized files on all projects estimated.
- Excellent written & oral communications skills
- Forge and maintain relationship with vendors and subcontractors in an effort to promote the firm.
- Continually train and increase ability to estimate HVAC/PL/FP projects.
- Manage time and deadlines effectively in accordance with estimating schedules.
- Quantity take-off using OST software (OST for onscreen take-off)
- BS in Mechanical MS preferred.
- Ability to price $/SF for HVAC, PL & FP system at early stages of design
- Familiarity with various types of HVAC, PL & FP equipment & systems pricing will be an added benefit
- Knowledge of productivity, crew calculations & site experience
- Estimating experience with various agencies like MTA, NYDEP, PANY/NJ, SCA, DDC, NYCHA, DASNY, OGS, NJTRANSIT, NJDPMC etc.
- Knowledge of the subject to discuss with the design team for scope clarifications
- Familiarity with Value Engineering Estimates & Change Order Estimates.
- Familiarity with Sage & OST software (OST for onscreen take-off)
- Outstanding organizational skills, excellent time management, and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- A track record of initiative and establishing priorities, and ownership of work is essential.
- Ability to maintain flexible and positive attitude towards assignments.
- Excellent Microsoft Office skills, with an emphasis on Excel.
- Must possess excellent communication skills, customer service skills to serve both internal and external customers.
- Effective problem-solving ability to research and satisfactorily resolve issues.
- Must exhibit attention to detail and commitment.
- Excellent work ethic and adherence to company policies.
