Background:

The Willamette Valley Company LLC, headquartered in Eugene, Oregon, is a global manufacturing company of chemicals, equipment, and biomaterials used in a variety of industries including Wood Products, Consumer Products, and Transportation/Infrastructure. The Willamette Valley Company accounting team is a high-performing, in-person accounting team that is seeking to add a Senior Financial Accountant with a servant-minded, ‘get the job done’ attitude that has the potential, skills, and desire to ultimately be considered for a future role as Chief Financial Officer. The Senior Financial Accountant will report to and be mentored directly by the Chief Financial Officer.

Summary:

Assigned duties, titles and tasks will ultimately progress with demonstrated aptitude and proficiency. The primary duties listed below (or other similar) will be the initial duties that the successful applicant will be expected to learn and master within their first couple years of employment.

Primary Duties:

  • Apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) to properly account for encountered business scenarios and transactions, including business acquisitions.
  • Work with Controller and other Accountants on complex account balancing and resolution of financial discrepancies.
  • Monitor and assist in resolution of transactional issues within IFS ERP system and other financial accounting software.
  • Provide and review financial results and other financial information requests with business partners.
  • Prepare monthly account reconciliations.
  • Process prepays to major suppliers and complex supplier invoices.
  • Monitor, verify and correct outside processing accounts for all entities.
  • Overview inventory balancing and assist with quality of inventory analysis.
  • Balance & monitor open shop orders for all entities.
  • Invoice shared costs and other transactions to subsidiaries, as needed.
  • Process bank wire and ACH payments as backup.
  • Backup Payroll Accountant to process bi-weekly payroll.
  • Backup for capital asset transactions in asset software and sales tax filing.
  • Provide training and assist users to ensure transactions are processed timely and accurately.
  • Assist with semi-annual inventory cost roll and cost determination for inventory parts.
  • Review internal controls and suggest enhancements to Controller and Chief Financial Officer.
  • Recommend accounting policy and procedure updates by analyzing current operations and ERP system capabilities.
  • Conduct month-end and year-end close processes and prepare/enter journal entries.
  • Assist with preparations for year-end audit.

Non-Essential Duties:

  • Ability to back up most aspects of department operations.
  • Assist AP entry and expense report review, as necessary.
  • Conduct internal inventory audits as determined by CFO.
  • Assist in preparation of annual budget.
  • Report and analysis of special projects as assigned by CFO.

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BA) in accounting from a four-year college or university.
  • CPA or other certification strongly desired.
  • Two plus years minimum related experience in public accounting or alternate equivalent experience working in private industry accounting.

Compensation:

  • Pay commensurate with experience, targeting a starting range of $80,000 - $100,000.
