Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Transmission Planning Engineer to join our Transmission and Distribution team. The ideal candidate will have experience in electrical utility planning, with a focus on analyzing and designing high-voltage transmission systems. The Transmission Planning Engineer will be responsible for conducting power flow studies, assessing system reliability, and ensuring that transmission networks meet current and future demand. Proficiency in industry-standard software and knowledge of regulatory requirements are essential.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Transmission System Analysis: Perform power flow, short circuit, and dynamic stability studies to assess the performance and reliability of the transmission system.
  • System Expansion Planning: Evaluate system needs and propose expansion plans to accommodate future load growth, new generation, and interconnection requests.
  • Grid Reliability: Conduct reliability and contingency analyses to ensure the transmission network can handle outages and maintain stability under various conditions.
  • Interconnection Studies: Support the integration of renewable energy resources and other generation into the transmission system by conducting technical evaluations of proposed projects.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with internal departments, such as Operations, Distribution Planning, and Regulatory Affairs, as well as external stakeholders including utilities and regulatory bodies.
  • Compliance: Ensure that transmission planning activities meet industry standards and regulatory requirements from bodies like NERC, FERC, and regional transmission organizations.
  • Software Proficiency: Utilize industry-standard tools such as PSS/E, PowerWorld, or similar software for system modeling and planning studies.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation on transmission system performance, future planning, and expansion projects.


Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience:
  • 4+ years of experience in transmission planning, electrical utility engineering, or related field.
  • Proven experience with high-voltage transmission systems (69kV and above).
  • Software Proficiency:
  • Advanced knowledge of PSS/E, PowerWorld, or similar software tools for transmission planning and analysis.
  • Familiarity with GIS systems and databases is a plus.
  • Certifications: PE (Professional Engineer) license preferred, or ability to obtain within a designated time frame.
  • Skills:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities for technical reports and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in renewable energy integration and distributed energy resources (DER).
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and standards from NERC, FERC, or other industry organizations.
