Business Insider is hiring an SEO Manager to join our Search Team to expand our readership and audience reach.
Business Insider is for people who are driven, optimistic and always looking forward. Our mission is to inspire action through thought-provoking stories. We tell our audience what they want and need to know to improve their lives and the world with storytelling that is accessible, smart, sometimes unexpected, and always helpful. Our team members embody and uphold Business Insider’s three core values: we are all one team, we are effective, and we strive to get better every day.
Our team collaborates with the newsroom to ensure their journalism is reaching the widest audience possible. We use data and analytics to put our stories — from award-winning investigations to breaking news to how-to guides — in front of readers.
The Role & Team:
As SEO Manager, you will understand how Google gets content in front of users and have a passion for problem-solving at scale with technical search and content ideation tools.
The Search team is dedicated to supporting our business, journalists, and products with a mission to grow Business Insider’s organic audience, by building the industry’s most comprehensive search toolkit.
The role reports to the SVP of Commerce and SEO, and sits on the broader Search Team. This role can be remote or hybrid based out of our New York City office.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work closely with heads of editorial and technical SEO, search-focused product managers and strategists to define our search strategy and metrics for measuring success in organic search performance, including rank, CTR, impressions, and domain authority.
- Help to evangelize SEO best practices and strategy across the organization.
- Contribute to strategic planning initiatives around tentpole events and coordinate that strategy with our editorial counterparts, turning SEO KPIs into plain-speak for writers and editors.
- Review and analyze SEO performance across our organization, including Editorial, Revenue, and Product teams to ensure technical, structural and targeting best practices are being met and improved.
- Gather data and work with the SEO team to brainstorm ideas, formulate experiments (including but not limited to A/B and split tests), and deliver data-driven results.
- Act as a resource for teammates on the search strategy team and partner with colleagues in analytics, product, editorial, distribution, and business to execute cross-functional projects.
The ideal candidate has:
- Experience working as an SEO, preferably in-house in an enterprise capacity. A journalism or background at a news organization is a plus but not required.
- Extensive experience with keyword research tools, content gap analysis, competitive research, and seasonal planning.
- You have knowledge of HTML, CSS, Javascript, Core Web Vitals, and structured data and how they impact SEO.
- You consider yourself a thought leader and pay attention to SEO trends and trades on a daily basis. You can elaborate on the impacts of prior language model and core algorithm updates from your perspective in the industry.
- Experience balancing the needs of the user and the business while improving technology to scale SEO best practices in a large organization.
- You are a critical thinker who enjoys investigating issues, asking questions, and looking for untapped opportunities using tools like Screaming Frog, Botify, SEMRush, Ahrefs, or commensurate SEO tools.
Salary & Benefits:
- Base salary: $150,000 – $170,000 (dependent on skills, experience, and competencies)
- Unlimited PTO, 10 paid holidays, and 16 weeks of parental leave
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance plans
- Matched and vested 401k plan
- Access to resources for financial planning guidance, family planning services, mental health outreach and Employee Assistance Programs (EAP)
- Additional benefits include commuter benefits, phone reimbursement, gym membership discounts, and more
