The VA Pacific Islands Health Care System provides access to patient care to over 130,000 veterans across a 2.6M square mile area of the Pacific Ocean. Remote Island locations, separated by great distances of ocean, is the environment in which the VAPIHCS delivers a full range of comprehensive health care services. The VAPIHCS operates seven community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs) covering seven county areas. These outpatient clinics are in America Samoa, Guam, Hilo, Kauai, Kona, Leeward, and Maui. VAPIHCS is a Level 3 facility within the VA Sierra Pacific Network (VISN 21).
The Pacific Islands VA is looking to hire an Anesthesiologist to join us in Honolulu at the Spark M. Matsunaga Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
The Anesthesiologist is a specialty professional in the anesthetic care of our patients. The major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Monitoring and administration of anesthesia both in general and regional classes of adult and geriatric patient in the Operating Room.
- Due to the Unique nature of the VA Pacific Islands Health Care System (VAPIHCS) the Anesthesiologist will be expected to credential and practice at multiple community and DOD sites, wherever VA providers perform procedures on our patients. This may include the other Hawaiian Islands as well as the outer pacific Islands in addition to Oahu.
- Supervising Anesthesia techs and CRNAs if present within the VAPIHCS staff. The Anesthesiologist serves as a consultant to the Medical and Surgical Services, not only in pre-surgical evaluation of patients, but in areas of expert airway adjunct, difficult I.V. access and pain control.
- Appropriately and courteously relating to internal and external customers, maintain the confidentiality of patient/employee information, and to function and work in a safe manner, as well as demonstrating an on-going commitment to and understanding of the Medical Center's Performance Improvement program.
- Demonstrating the knowledge of changes associated with ageing and principles of human growth and development possess the ability to assess and interpret patient data, and the ability to identify age-specific needs such as incorporating age specific factors and needs into patient care activities. The Anesthesiologist will be expected to be a leader in the pre-operative preparation of the patient.
- The Surgical Department strives to maintain a safe working environment, in which we identify and address issues and concerns as they relate to safety problems within O.R. The department adheres to the highest surgical quality improvement standards (VASQIP) and the Anesthesiologist will be expected to lead in this effort.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm
Pay: Total compensation package available up to $400,000+
