Education: Bachelors' or Master's degree in Social Work
Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Social Work and 3 year's experience with children and families and/or Master's Degree in Social Work. ND Social Worker License.
Job Summary: School Social Workers in Grand Forks Public Schools are trained mental health professionals, with a degree in social work and licensed through the state of North Dakota. They provide services related to a person's social, emotional, and life adjustment to school and/or society, as well as provide consultation to school staff regarding child welfare matters. Work in collaboration with parents, students, staff, and community resources to strengthen the physical and emotional well-being of students. The responsibilities will include provision of direct services, consultation, program design, and evaluation. Work in partnership with the school counselor to provide a continuum of services.
Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
Responsibilities:
Work Environment and Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; occasionally walk and stand. The ability to hear and see in order to communicate effectively as well as communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; Maintain effective audio/visual discrimination and perception to the degree necessary for the successful performance of assigned duties; Maintain mental capacity, allowing for effective interaction and communication with others. Ability to manage emotions and provide emotional support during stressful circumstances.
Terms of Employment: 188 Contract Days
Evaluation: By the Principal at least twice each year in the first three years of service (December 15 & April 15), and at least once each year thereafter (April 15).

- Identify and connect community services to staff, students and families.
- Identify evidenced based/emerging practices that support the behavioral and mental health needs of students.
- Conduct multi-tiered school needs assessments that address behavioral difficulties intended to improve academic performance.
- Establish collaborative professional relationships.
- Contribute to safe and healthy school environment.
- Advocate for the policies, programs and services that provide culturally competent practice.
- Provide direct practice services that foster social and emotional competencies.
- Provide specialized services such as crisis intervention and consultation.
- Collaborate with school teams in implementation of trauma informed practices.
- Mobilize school and community resources to maximize academic and behavior success.
- Maintain appropriate and sufficient documentation to facilitate the delivery of services.
- Participate in continual professional development as required for licensure.
- Participate biennially in a minimum of 8 hours of training specific to mental health as required for contracted employees of a North Dakota School District by the North Dakota Century Code.
- Possibly provide partnership case management in collaboration with Northeast Human Service center- as assigned.
