The Bookstein Institute for Higher Education in Taxation at California State University, Northridge is seeking a highly motivated, self-starter individual, with a good attitude and willingness to learn, who possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills, to assist in offering free tax representation to low-income members of the community facing a disputes and controversies with the Internal Revenue Service or state tax agency. This position is made available through a grant from the U.S. Treasury Department and is subject to its continued funding.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Case Management Software : Review that cases are evenly distributed amongst Paid Clinicians. Utilize tasks, calendars, tools in Clio software to respond to matters timely and by deadlines. Assign relevant and timely tasks to clinicians regarding their cases. Case Screening: Responsible for day-to-day communications with prospective clients and conducting intake interviews. Assist Paid Clinician in regard to complex intake clients, discuss cases with clinic coordinator and faculty. Case Load Activity : Regularly review cases for new documentation received, updates, and progress made. Discuss controversies with the IRS; respond to clients' inquiries; review Paid Clinician work performed on cases and follows up with Clinicians whenever there is no activity recorded in Clio, to ensure progress is being made on all cases. Responsible for daily communication for assigned cases; Assists Clinician when they need assistance with current clients or clients have complaints. Regularly monitor case progression and ensures that regular updates on the secured database for case tracking are made; Supervise Paid Clinicians. Work Environment & Other : Maintain the office and in good order and secure. Regularly communicate and update the Coordinator and the Director of the Bookstein Institute on matters affecting the operation of the Clinic, including personnel and fiscal matters. Communicates with Faculty/ Coordinator/ Director regarding challenges faced. Conduct research under the supervision of the Clinic attorney and work closely with the clinic attorney to prepare for USTC appearance. Discusses US Tax Cases with Office of Appeals in an attempt to settle cases out of USTC. Discuss more complex cases with IRS OIC Specialists. Day-to-Day Clinic Overall Management; Step in when needed to make sure all Student Clinicians have work, review their work, approve memos, letters, tax returns, OIC's and other documentation before any correspondence is sent to the IRS. Conduct Student Clinician evaluations when and if asked. Step in to help Clinic Coordinator if they are absent; studies and familiarizes self with the IRS's Internal Revenue Manual; continues education to maintain Enrolled Agent status; Submits requests for acquisition of office supplies and equipment to the Clinic Coordinator

Knowledge, Specialized Skills, and Abilities:
- Must be an Enrolled Agent
- Preferred but not required: Bachelor Degree or Master's in Taxation preferable.
- Experience in personal income tax return preparation, including Schedule C and Earned Income Credit knowledge.
- Experience representing taxpayers facing audits or other disputes with the IRS or FTB is preferred, but not required.
- Excellent Verbal and Written communication skills, ability to work with different software tools for scheduling, client-file-maintenance, tax preparation.
- Attention to detail and excellent organization skills.
- Good attitude and desire to learn and help where needed.
- Spanish bilingual highly desirable.
