Scope & Responsibilities of Reliability Engineer I : (Not limited to)
This Reliability Engineering position provides equipment plans and inspection services for maintaining and improving equipment and plant operations reliability and mechanical integrity (MI). The goal of the position is to ensure fixed equipment operates safely and reliably. Job duties involve both the safe performance of inspections and the identification of the need for replacement in accordance with API/ASME standards on pressure vessel equipment, pressure relief devices, and piping purposes of recommending and approving repairs or certifying compliance. This position will report to the Reliability Manager.
  • Maintains safe, secure and healthy work environment by adhering to company and industry safety standards and practices, and to legal regulations, alerting others regarding potential hazards or concerns.
  • Maintains and updates Plant Condition Management Software inspection database for fixed equipment and works with Inspection Technician for replacement criteria.
  • Develops equipment plans for pressure vessels, piping and relief valves compliant with applicable API, ASME and other standards required by OSHA Process Safety Management.
  • Review bid packages, specifications, design and fabrication drawings, and manufacturers for capital projects.
  • Conduct field performance tests on equipment as needed.
  • Evaluates equipment histories and failure modes to determine appropriate inspection plans and preventive maintenance plans for fixed equipment.
  • Evaluates equipment histories and failure modes to determine appropriate spare parts strategies and inventories.
  • Develops maintenance procedures for the maintenance shops to work by.
  • Lead/participate in root-cause analysis for failed equipment.
  • Make recommendations to implement/expedite repairs and/or replacements on failed equipment.
  • Make recommendations to improve designs of process equipment.
  • Maintains necessary documentation electronically and in equipment hard copy files to comply with all programs.
  • Develop turn around (T/A) scope of work including, pressure vessel repair/replacement, heat exchanger repair/replacement, and assist with inspection scope.
  • Develop continuous improvement projects to optimize to Asset Life Cycles, maintenance costs, and reliability.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor/Management.

Education & Experience for Reliability Engineer I:
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
  • 1-5 years of Petrochemical experience.
  • Highly effective people skills with demonstrated ability to work on teams.
  • Experience working with OSHA PSM covered processes and Mechanical Integrity.
  • Experience with API, ANSI, ASME standards for OSHA PSM Covered Processes.
  • Experience working in a reliability team using an Asset Life Cycle methodology.
  • Demonstrated results using Reliability-Centered-Maintenance methods.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in root-cause analysis, incident investigations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in project management, especially work breakdown structures.
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft office and maintenance management systems.
  • Proficiency in the use of the Plant Control Management System (PCMS) and current company version of AutoCAD software will be expected during the first year of entering the position.
  • Good working knowledge of basic business principles such as finance, accounting, etc.
  • Strong communication skills with flexibility to interact with all levels in the organization.
Other Qualifications of Reliability Engineer I:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle driver's license.

  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication with flexibility to interact with all levels in the organization.
  • Proficiency in the use of the Plant Control Management System (PCMS) software will be expected during the first year of entering the position.
  • Good working knowledge of basic business principles including finance and accounting.
  • Successful completion of all company mandated &/or job-related training programs deemed appropriate.

Physical & Cognitive Demands of Reliability Engineer I:
COGNITIVE DEMANDS: includes the ability to meet deadlines, focus attention, work independently or within a team, perform repetitive tasks, assess spatial relations, communicate effectively, read, and comprehend, interpret information, organize, think critically, and troubleshoot.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: seeing, speaking, hearing, smelling, kneeling, stooping, sitting, walk/climb/crawl, stand/reach, listen, writing, physical coordination, driving, climbing, twisting/bending, depth perception, assembling parts, keyboarding, push/pull/lift/carry or otherwise transport 50 pounds.
Must be able to walk, climb towers, stairs, scaffolds as needed to access equipment; some work at high elevations and in confined spaces is required.
Work in various indoor and outdoor environments in extreme heat or cold with exposure to hazardous materials.
Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and moderate noise levels.
Able to wear Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) and use all types of respiratory equipment including self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
Occasional travel may be required.
