Job Summary

We are looking for a Research Data Analyst with strong quantitative skills and experience working with large data sets and programming. Our research team conducts trials and observational studies using a variety of data, including electronic health record, claims, and cohort study data. The Research Data Analyst will closely work with the Principal Investigators of projects within the division and other project staff. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required to efficiently and effectively work with statisticians, co-investigators, research staff, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students.

The Research Data Analyst will be asked to ensure data quality (assessing data completeness, cleaning, verification, reliability and validity of study variables, and identifying and addressing data gaps and missing data), prepare data for analysis, conduct statistical analysis in support of research proposals and protocols, as well as independently plan limited studies. The Data Analyst will assist in preparing the dissemination of findings (e.g., presentations, tables, figures, PubMed search).

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $67,000 - $94,200 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The Division of Nephrology at UCSF-ZSFG is led by Dr. Delphine Tuot (Division Chief). Dr. Laura Plantinga will serve as the supervisor. Drs. Tuot and Plantinga, along with other investigators in the division, lead a variety of clinical and health services research projects related to nephrology. Current research areas include the use of telehealth, the application of geriatric principles to nephrology care, workforce issues, quality of kidney care delivery, and social determinants of health. Our research areas span a continuum of patients, from those with risk factors for kidney disease to those with end-stage kidney disease.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with coursework in quantitative analysis (i.e. biostatistics, mathematics, computer science, statistics) or in related area and one or more years of relevant experience and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Working skills in statistical analysis and experience with statistical software packages (R, STATA or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of various study designs and implementation strategies.
  • Knowledge of database management.
  • Ability to multi-task, problem solve and apply creative solutions to new and unexpected situations.
  • Working skills in analysis and consultation.
  • Skills to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in statistics, epidemiology or related field.
  • 2 - 3 years of experience in practical data analysis (i.e., manipulating primary data or EHR data analysis).
