Position Summary:

The Director of Human Resources will plan, lead, direct, develop, and coordinate the HR department's policies, activities, and staff, ensuring legal compliance and implementing strategies aligned with the organization's overarching goals, vision, and core values.

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborates with the CFO and senior leadership to understand the organization's goals and strategy related to staffing, recruiting, and retention.
  • Provides leadership and coordination of H&B’s people functions by developing and implementing corporate HR strategies and programs, including executing best practices for hiring, onboarding, talent management, development, and succession planning.
  • Participates as a member of the organization’s Operations Leadership Team and also facilitates the weekly HR department meetings, ensuring goals are on track.
  • Leads the design and development of the organization’s Total Rewards strategy and programs (compensation, benefits, work-life issues, performance, and professional development opportunities).
  • Monitors and ensures the organization's compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations and recommends best practices; reviews and maintains updates to the Employee Handbook, ensuring compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; applies this knowledge to communicate policy, practice, and resource changes to the leadership team.
  • Facilitates and manages the negotiation of union contracts and acts as a company representative for union activities, including contract negotiations, grievance resolutions, and disciplinary actions.
  • Builds a company culture in which everyone is a valued team member and aligns with the organization’s core values.
  • Oversees the daily workflow of the entire HR department.
  • Develops and manages the Human Resources department's annual budget.
  • Provides coaching and leadership development opportunities to managers and supervisors.
  • Oversees the executive recruitment process.
  • Mediates and suggests solutions to employee and policy disputes.
  • Administers employee and company communications.

Other Duties:

  • Any responsibilities or projects may be assigned by the CFO or leadership team.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resource management or equivalent education; Master’s degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in a human resource leadership position is required; 10+ years is preferred.
  • SHRM-SCP or SPHR Certification is required.
  • Coaching Certification preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local employment, wage, and salary laws and regulations, as well as the ability to interpret and advise on applying EEO/AA laws.
  • Ability to assess training and development needs and implement appropriate interventions.
  • Knowledge and ability to implement organizational development practices.
  • Experience in the design and implementation of salary administration plans and benefit programs.
  • Knowledge and ability to effectively utilize HRIS and applications.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Demonstrated project and time management skills.
  • Proven expertise in solving problems.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
