Job Summary:
Sterling Engineering's client in Chicago is seeking an experienced and personable Director of Operations to fill the role due to retirement. The previous incumbent was with the company for 40+ years and will be available for a year to train and conduct knowledge transfer.
Job Duties:
- Provides technical leadership and guides engineering manager in product development and design.
- Directs R&D efforts to apply best technologies for competitive advantages.
- Manages product development, maintaining schedules, budgets, and cost estimates.
- Establishes priorities for engineering resources in new product development and sustaining support.
- Verifies patent processes and monitors engineering schedules.
- Collaborates with Marketing and Sales on refining product concepts and costs.
- Develops best practices, standards, policies, and workflow.
- Controls operations and engineering budgets, forecasting costs.
- Ensures operational conformance to quality system standards and ISO certification.
- Implements procedures for maintaining manufacturing standards, product quality, reliability, and safety.
- Analyzes operating expenses, recommends cost containment strategies.
- Approves recommendations for manufacturing facility projects.
- Works with production planner for customer service and production efficiency.
- Directs integration of product and inventory processes.
- Provides mentoring, training, and coaching to team members.
- Promotes company-wide improvement efforts and lean manufacturing.
- Reviews and performs routing submittals from production.
- Develops standards, metrics, and procedures for efficient inventory management.
Qualifications:
- B.S. in Engineering or a related technical field; MBA or equivalent.
- Minimum 10+ years of experience in Engineering & Operations.
- Experience managing direct reports within engineering and operations.
- Knowledge of accrediting agencies and ISO9001:2015 compliance.
