Job Summary:

D Executive Protection is accepting applications for certified Special Police Officers to work in various locations including government buildings, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, residential complexes, corporate offices, retail establishments, industrial sites, hotels, entertainment venues, transportation hubs, religious centers, construction sites, and critical infrastructure. Responsibilities include maintaining safety, enforcing laws, and coordinating with local law enforcement when necessary.

Special Police Officers (SPOs) in D.C. are authorized under the Code of the District of Columbia to carry out specific police powers on the property they are assigned to protect. This includes making arrests, issuing citations, and detaining individuals pending the arrival of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). Special Police Officers must be licensed by the District of Columbia and meet all training and certification requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Patrol and Surveillance: Conduct regular patrols of assigned property to ensure safety. Use surveillance equipment and monitor security systems to detect suspicious activities.
  2. Gate/Entry Security: Verify identification, check vehicle permits, maintain visitor logs, conduct security checks, and patrol the perimeter.
  3. Law Enforcement and Public Safety: Enforce laws and respond to incidents of crime or suspicious behavior.
  4. Emergency Response: Act as the first responder to emergencies and provide assistance as needed.
  5. Arrests and Detentions: Make lawful arrests and prepare accurate incident reports.
  6. Traffic and Access Control: Regulate traffic flow and ensure authorized access to restricted areas.
  7. Conflict Resolution: Mediate disputes and ensure a safe environment.
  8. Communication: Maintain open communication with property management and law enforcement.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate degree in criminal justice or related field preferred.
  • Must be licensed as a Special Police Officer by the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of SPO training and certification (40-hour training program approved by the D.C. government).
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid D.C. Concealed Carry Pistol License (CCPL) if required.
  • Completion of CPR/First Aid and AED training is required.
  • Previous law enforcement, security, or military experience preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of D.C. laws and regulations.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and communicate effectively.
  • Basic computer skills for reporting and surveillance monitoring.
  • Physical ability to walk or stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.

Working Conditions:

Shifts may include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Work may be conducted indoors or outdoors, depending on the location.
