General Summary
The Photography Department at the Mass General Hospital is searching for a versatile motion graphics designer responsible for the development and creation of design concepts and implementation of various video projects to include storyboard design, 3D animation, 2D animation, graphic design, and video production. This hands-on role sits in the MGH Photography Department offering a unique view into daily life at Mass General Brigham and mission-focused storytelling. Primarily a video editor and motion graphics designer, the person will also support areas of graphic design and production as needed.
The Motion Graphics Designer supports numerous departments, committees, and individuals throughout the hospital and designs for a wide range of media formats including video, signage, and print. The scope of clients, audience, subject matter, and creative solutions is broad, encompassing patient care, research, education, and community. The designer should be comfortable leading the full creative cycle from brainstorm to strategy to implementation to production across a wide variety of projects with different stakeholders.
The designer reports to the Photography Department Manager who manages the video, photography, and printing operations and oversees creative within the department. The designer should be confident in their creative visions, be an effective collaborator, and be comfortable working independently on projects.

Duties

- Collaborates with the MGH Photography Department team and other departments on video animation and storytelling about the Mass General Brigham and its mission, people, programs, work, processes, and policies in a visually creative and accessible way
- Translate creative concepts into compelling motion graphics
- Create short videos, animations, and motion graphics using After Effects
- Own and complete design requests from clients and departments across the hospital - including one-time projects, annual events, and ongoing initiatives. Maintain file and folder organization for clients.
- Curate and maintain vendor relationships for printers, illustrators, and artists as resources.
- Understand the brand policies to guide and consult with internal clients across the system
- Be a resourceful, collaborative team player with a proven ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Bring innovative and fresh perspective in our workflow processes consistent with Mass General Brigham’s dedication to innovation in patient care and medical discovery
- Other duties as needed or required
- Bachelor’s degree; in design, integrated media, or related discipline preferred
- Strong working portfolio in motion graphics, design, and video
- Excellent visual and verbal communications skills
- A keen aesthetic eye and strong video or animation portfolio
- Ability to develop designs consistent with the brand look and feel
- Exceptional graphic design skills
- Strong understanding of designing for a variety of different formats – web, mobile, video, audio, and print
- Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and as a member of a team
- Experience delivering for clients and making deadlines
- Impressive portfolio of communications projects
- Collaborative and effective
Skills Required
- Ability to apply brand identity systems, typography, photography, color, and other visual elements to create innovative solutions that meet marketing and business needs
- After Effects skills and general storyboard and animation experience
- Expert knowledge of Adobe CC including After Effects, Illustrator, and Premiere as well as Office 365
- Ability to apply critical design thinking to various creative tasks
- Ability to develop compelling creative design and user experiences for all channels including websites, print, emails, mobile, video, etc.
- Experience creating animations, motion graphics, and other digital media assets is preferred
- Ability to understand and follow directions
- Strong organizational and time management skills and the ability to adapt to changing priorities and multiple deadlines
- Ability to manage and effectively utilize a wide variety of vendor relationships
