Job Requirements / Description
The James H. Quillen VA Medical Center is seeking a Hematology/Oncology Physician to provide comprehensive, efficient, compassionate, high-quality healthcare to all veterans, functioning as a member of the inter-disciplinary team providing clinical care to the veterans.
Responsibilities
- Providing medical evaluation and directing overall management of patients in collaboration with the other members of the health care team.
- Obtaining a comprehensive health history and performing a physical examination on all patients who present to the Oncology/Hematology clinic or other assigned clinical area.
- Ordering and entering diagnostic studies and interpreting laboratory tests, EKG, and radiology diagnostic tests (CXR, CT scan, PET, MRI).
- Attending, participating, and presenting at weekly Tumor Board.
- Collaborating and consulting with other providers and members of the healthcare team for confirmation of diagnosis and treatment of Hematology/Oncology patients.
- Documenting initial visits, follow-up visits, procedures performed, problem lists, procedure lists, and making interval progress notes in Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS).
- Providing feedback and patient education to patients and their families.
- Participating in equitable call coverage on a rotating basis with other providers in the Hematology/Oncology clinic.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement:
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved school.
- Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Completion of residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Preferred Experience
Two years of experience in Hematology/Oncology, Board certified/eligible.
