Planned Parenthood Los Angeles is seeking an experienced full-time Disease Intervention Specialist with excellent communication and customer service skills to work in our Downtown Los Angeles Headquarters office (hybrid). The Disease Intervention Specialist (DIS) oversees all partner notification services for the CEDIS Grant. The DIS also serves as the link between public health and private health care providers and therefore must foster and enhance a cooperative and effective relationship between the two.

Our Ideal Candidate will have the following qualifications:
- High School diploma required. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Working knowledge of public health, STD, HIV preferred.
- Experience working in public health or related field preferred.
- Bilingual (Spanish) abilities preferred.
- HIV counseling and testing experience a plus.
- Must have strong communication skills, work well in a team, and be able to work with a wide variety of people.
- Must have strong computer skills and ability to input data.
- Must have good organizational skills and be able to work independently in a fast-paced, diverse environment.
- Must maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Must have critical thinking ability and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to travel, within California, for training and temporary duty assignments, as needed.
- California driver's license, good driving record, valid insurance, and working vehicle are necessary for field investigation.
- Must be able to meet Los Angeles County background check requirements via Live Scan fingerprint clearance.
About the position:
- Abortion patients are cared for at each of our health centers, and in part through the administrative, support, and other non-clinical services provided at all PPLA locations, and by all PPLA employees. Supporting these critical services is an essential job duty, and a fundamental responsibility of all employees and contractors.
- Collaborate directly with Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (LACDHS) and other DIS to serve clients infected with gonorrhea, and other STDs and refer their sex partners into screening and treatment.
- Troubleshoot around issues related to Confidential Morbidity Report (CMR) and other laboratory results.
- Provide client-centered counseling to clients diagnosed with an STD, specifically syphilis, HIV, gonorrhea, and chlamydia co-infection.
- Interviewing priority STD clients to gather sex partner(s) information, in an attempt to identify the source of infections and to prevent further disease transmission.
- Notify partners for gonorrhea, HIV, and other priority STDs or communicable disease.
- Work independently conducting field investigation (site visits to patients' homes, neighborhoods, shelters, etc.) to locate, notify patients of test results or exposure, and refer individuals for necessary medical evaluation and treatment.
- Consult with Physicians and other Clinicians to obtain medical information, provide appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations, and stimulate rapid and thorough reporting practices.
- Conduct educational/informational presentations to community-based partners and populations at risk to assist with STD prevention and control efforts.
- Accurately enter client information into Casewatch.
- Attend and represent PPLA at meetings.
- Participate in special events as directed by the Manager, Case Management.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Manager, Case Management.
